So sorry
Small dogs are typically within a 3 street radius so posting flyers and going door to door is extremely helpful . Ask neighbors to check their cameras to track movement
large dogs can be within a 3 mile radius so it is important to spread flyers further
Post ASAP on Nextdoor, pawboost, Petco love lost websites and lost pets on Facebook (all sites there are several) , neighbor ring and 24petconnect
If you do not have FB, reach out to a friend/neighbor or the administrator
If you do not have ring, you can join by downloading the app or signing up on the web, it’s free
Begin searching those websites EVERYDAY
PAWBOOST- search both lost and found as sometimes the lost and found postings get missed.
Start search day 1 at 10 miles as sometimes people stop to help an animal but do not leave in the neighborhood so the pet could end up much further away and then increase radius daily
RING - Keep watch on all comments showing sightings of your animal, it is critical you turn ON the CONTACT AUTHOR so people can respond quickly to your phone with pictures and also if they found your pet ( you phone number is not given, ring uses a dummy forward number to ensure your privacy
24PETCONNECT - Check twice a day 8am ( intakes from night before) and 3pm ( intakes during the day). Search under ‘ I Lost my pet ‘ as this lists all animals found both at shelters and private finders. If your dog has been missing longer than 4 days, you need to look under BOTH lost and Adopt as they could now be up for adoption. Do NOT search for specific breeds or gender as sometimes they list them as unknown or put wrong breed. Search ALL
put flyers up on community mailboxes and intersections as many people are not looking on the internet
Knock on your door neighbors doors and let them know and ask if they can view their camera footage
Put out shirts, socks, blankets, anything with their or your scents
If you have a breed that can scent or a sibling, take them for a walk when traffic and noise is at the lowest and see if they can lead you to the missing dog
People have also been having great success putting signs in yard ‘Missing breed..’ as many finders walk and drive neighborhood before going online
NOTE: if you loved one ends up in a shelter, DO NOT abandoned them thinking you cannot afford to get them out. They WILL give them to you. If you cannot afford the fees due to financial hardship, let them know, they can reduce fees and even do payment plans. If you have any issues, ask for a manager
