A MUCH NEEDED REPEATED NOTE: IF YOU HAVE A LOST PET, PLEASE KNOW THAT . . . the biggest scams out there are pet recovery scams. They claim they have found your lost pet post and tell you they have your pet but need money to get gas to get to you, or that they need a payment first for any number of reasons. They may also request a code being sent to confirm who you are. **DO NOT SEND ANY MONEY!** **DO NOT SEND ANY CODES!** More than likely the people that found your dog or cat aren't even in Pennsylvania. They scour the internet for lost pets and work off desperation to find a missing beloved family member. There should be no fees involved in pet recoveries. This group wasn't put in place for people to make money off of the trauma of others, but to be supportive volunteers willing to lend a hand. If you see a comment on a post made by what appears to be a pet recovery scammer, please report to the Admins.

🐾My dog is lost, now what?🐾 If your dog becomes lost, the best return on your investment is to ✅Get large, attention grabbing signage ( that’s easy to read from a car) hung everwhere in the area as quickly as possible. If you have the money to do so, get a sign store to print dozens of lost dog yard signs that have a large pic of your dog and your phone number in gigantic print. Get these up everywhere-at every intersection in the area. If you aren’t getting sightings, expand your signage further out. If your dog is elderly or impaired, use your money to pay some neighbors to assist you in an exhaustive search of the area, paying particular attention to inside of thick brush and near water sources. This is an absolute must and should not be delayed. Do not have strangers walking around yelling for your dog. ✅Post in the Nextdoor and Neighbors apps as well as every local Facebook group you can find-and always include your phone number. Beware scammers may call too. Signage and social media posts are critical to getting sightings of your lost dog. Don’t underestimate either! ✅Notify your local police. ✅File lost reports with your local shelters. ✅Notify your microchip company that your dog is lost. ✅Post on social media asking for referrals for a reputable local lost dog tracker/trapper. ✅Join local lost pet groups on facebook and post. ✅✅✅ 🚁 Contact a local thermal drone pilot and discuss whether it’s advisable to engage a thermal drone into the search. Do this EARLY! Their service is often successful and the nominal fee is worth it in my opinion. ⛔️ If you decide to hire a K9 tracker, research them for yourself rather than trusting random recommendations. What is their actual success rate? Did they actually find your dog or did just “confirm” the sightings that the owner was already aware of? Look at their website and Facebook success stories. Read through the lines. Was their service actually helpful or was the dog found because of the exhaustive work the local volunteer tracker put in based on sightings and their years of knowledge? How soon can they come? Do they pay people referral fees for recommending them? Some do and that’s unethical in my opinion. Some companies have zero confidence in their own K9 trackers yet they’ll send them out to you because there’s money to be had. (I have proof of this!) What is the cost? There is a drastic difference in what some of the K9 trackers charge. Could that money be better spent by getting more and better signage up so people spotting your dog know who to call? Is there a K9 tracker that also traps in your area? Could your local volunteer trapper do more if they were assisted with the food and fuel costs necessary to help get your dog home? Many of us work days to months spending our own money actually reuniting your lost dog based on sightings after a K9 tracker was paid sometimes thousands of dollars for often questionable tracking. Ask yourself these questions before blindly spending money on a service that may or may not yield worthwhile results. I am not discounting the use of K9 trackers. I am simply encouraging everyone to be thoughtful about how their money is spent and carefully research who you hire if you decide to go that route.

File a lost dog report with ACCT and petcolove. And do go in person to ACCT to look often. IMPORTANT: ACCT IS ONLY REQUIRED TO HOLD UNMICROCHIPPED ANIMALS FOR ONLY 48 before they can be put up for adoption or possibly put down. Check with ACCT if any other rescue group may have pulled your dog from ACCT. ACCT is required to hold microchipped animals for a longer certain amount of time before another rescue can pull from them. Post some flyers in your area and in nearby Vet offices. Not everyone is on social media. Hope your dog is home soon.
