Please place several pieces of your smelliest clothing (dirty socks, sweat-soaked t-shirts, sneakers, etc) in a protected place outside your home to create a scent trail. Add/change items daily to keep scent strong. Look at night, not just during the day. When calling, TRY to keep your voice calm and encouraging. Make contact and stay in touch with all nearby rescue groups and vets. Don"t give up. Check under patios, in bats, in thick brush and high up in trees, in garages, sheds, boats, cars and trucks and campers. Check in crawl spaces, closets, under box springs, in drawers and in closed toy boxes. Ask your neighbors to please check in their sheds, garages and back yards. Leave a piece of your unwashed clothing with your scent on it. Put up posters in the neighborhood. Most inside cats do not venture too far away unless they are chased or picked up. While looking in all those hiding spots at night use a flashlight as you may see their eyes reflection. Sometimes stress makes them disoriented, so it may be hiding under a neighbor’s house, or in a covered boat. Never give up hope... they are anxious to get home as well. The suggestion of food is so that your cat does not go looking for food elsewhere if he/she is in their home yard. Call relentlessly in a very high and intelligible voice for 5 minutes every half hour minimum. Do this each evening for ten days if necessary. Stop and Listen for their meow. In general, your cat will hear you from the “first night”, but will not move, will identify you the “second night”, and identify where your voice comes from and will then try to get substantially closer as soon as he understands that he can rely on your voice to reorient himself and return. Use a flashlight at night and shine in bushes etc. Their eyes will shine in the dark. Be consistent, many rescuers use this method as it works particularly well on indoor only cats...your cat will be close to home within 5 to 6 houses from your’s on either side. It will be scared and hiding, hunkered down under something...check under stairs porches and decks also under bushes at night time with a flashlight. Bring a bag of treats with you and shake it while you call. CONSISTENCY is KEY...do this ASAP, don’t wait, time is very important while your cat is close to home. Good luck and never give up.

Hey everyone. There are so many lost cats lately I am unable to keep up with the lost cat advice Please help us. Post the below advice when u see a post for a lost cat Copy and paste it in your messenger so it’s allways handy ::::::::::: These tips are for indoor. And indoor /outdoor kitty’s Many indoor cats return when its quiet and dark usually 10pm-6:30am so if possible leave your door/window open slightly for him to return. BUT MAKE Sure the cat is not hiding in your house first. This method works well for these indoor cats that escape. Put out some worn clothing with your scent and keep calling for him frequently as he will hear your voice. It may take a few days or so for him to get the confidence to return but main thing is that he needs a way inside when its quiet...secure any other pets in a room so they can't escape. If you have a garage you can open the door 3-4inches high so he can go in. Put water outside. Check your yard and your neighbors yards/patios/garage/sheds/bushes thoroughly. Leave your door open as most cats come back n the night Check all garages and sheds in your neighbourhood. Here’s some tips https://www.vokra.ca/lost-cat When searching for your indoor cat do what heather did. Put up with photo and your address on social media and. Nextdoor app If the cat is indoors only search in the direction the cat ran. In heathers case the cat ran to the back of the yard by the fence there was a space that led against the fence to the neighbours yard to the south. We followed that fence searching with a flashlight to the front of that house to the south. They front yard had a cement wall surrounding the property up about three feet and then lattice fence on top and thick bushes Heather had already looked earlier that day under those bushes but she didn’t use a flashlight and look up the back cement wall and lattice fence above it. When I searched I saw the black cat in the corner right angel of the cement wall where the lattice was. With his blue leash hanging down. I walked around to the other side of that fence corner and blocked any ways for the cat to get out by stuffing a bedsheet in there Then went around to the bushes and crawled very very slowly under the bush to where he was. With a towel and net. I had a leather glove on and talked gently to him and slowly slowly put my right hand and scruffier his neck and held on tight while my left hand scoured the rear of his body So that I had two hands on him and slowly pulled him towards my body. Still scruffiness his neck with my right hand not letting go, I used my left hand to wrap the towel around him tightly. And move slowly from under the bushes. I had a net ready and pushed how whole body into the net and tied it tight and was able to get him home. He is traumatized from incident where they took him outside for the very first time on a collar and leash. so I recommend he stay in their bedroom for 24 hours as he will be an escape risk for the next week.
