Thank you. It appeared in my back yard (which is fully fenced) and I have no idea where it came from. I can't find it today so it might have moved on already.

An ornate box turtle they are native to Colorado and chances are that it's wild and not someone's pet. If moved from their location they can spend the rest of their life circling trying to find their way back. Please put it back where found

I believe it is no ones pet. It is a Box turtle, out probably either looking for a mate or a place to lay her eggs. They never roam more than 300 yards from where they are born, so if moved, they will continue searching for their home grounds.
