My vet told me that if ever my 2 boys got out, I should put articles of family clothing outside. Cats have a terrific sense of smell and if they smell something familiar, they will come home. He also told me that cats will not just run like a dog might, they will more than likely find a safe, secure hiding place usually close to home because they're scared. If you try this, I hope he'll come home sooner than later. I've also been told to be sure to check storm drains because they have a tendency to go there too. ***per Stanley Animal Control, If you put their litter box outside, a cat can smell their own litter box up to a mile away and come home. On a personal note, I'd be leery of putting food out now because the bobcats and coyotes seem to be a big presence again in the neighborhoods. I'd stick with clothing vs the food.

Put out food, water, and some of YOUR dirty clothes (dirty socks are nice and stinky)/blankets (dry in dryer first to enhance smell). because of the weather, you might want to put out a plastic tub with the blankets for shelter. Go out every morning and evening walking (folks seem successful around 10:30 p.m., but don't go alone) with food/treats in bowl rattling it, calling your cats name. Do NOT give up. There was a cat a week or so ago, they went out every night for 5 nights, finally on the 5th night, they heard it's meow, it was trapped in a neigbors shed. Another was hiding in a tree from the neighbor's dogs. Check buildings, bushes, trees, and storm drains around your house. Also in the house/garage, keep all doors/closets open in case it's hiding in the house. Put neon Lost Cats signs all over your neighborhood, give to vets, and the shelter. Also have magnets made of your lost cat sign and stick on your car. Contact the chip company if chipped. Post to Lost Cats facebook page, petfbi.org, nextdoor.com, and pawboost.com (ignore cost, do not put in credit card info, its free)
