Carrol Anne Arundel and Baltimore County extended the surrender law to 3 days to give more time to find the owner before surrendering, I don't know if Harford changed, but I think more shelters allow the finder to hold onto the animal than don't. The good thing about going to the shelter is some shelters make you fix your pet before they leave (PG does this), they're microchipped and get a rabies vax.

Rachel Moxley is this the case everywhere, or does it vary by county? I understand the wisdom of having *one* place to look for a lost pet, but shelters are like jails.

Nevitt Morris county ordinance states any pet found in PG County has to be surrendered to the shelter. I was told this by the director himself. Taking a lost pet out of county makes it harder for the owner to find them, if at all.

He may be microchipped. Dont take it to the PG County Shelter. They euthanize too many dogs there.
