Check wooded areas with a water source like a creek or stream. When one of my dogs was injured several years ago, she hid in a ravine 2 blocks from my house from Saturday night to the following Thursday night until she was ready to be found, badly injured leg and all. When they are hurt they are even afraid of owners they love until they are ready.
