You should first call and inform the chip company if they're chipped, update info if needed. Then contact local shelters, and the local pound and let them know, also go and fill out an online report as well at the humane society, because they can call you if they show up, but you should actually do daily trips there as well because they don't always know for sure and your eyes are always better to see your own dog, fill out their form as well. Next go and check out the pawboost and nextdoor apps, and also contact all of the rescues in the area (that way if someone finds them and they take them there, they'll be able to contact you ASAP since they've been notified already), also notify the vets in the area that the animal lives in, and post on other lost and found sites in your area and here on fb with as much information and pictures as you can, so the searchers will know where and who to look for. Also give a flyer to your postal worker, they know and see a lot in your area. Next, take the flyers with you as you go and walk your neighborhood (walking in the evening/night is good as well because it's quieter), and bring your other dogs with you if you have any as you go walking and touch all things down low that you can, because dogs can smell up to 12 miles and leaving your scent can help them to get back to you. Telling your neighbors too will allow them to keep an eye out as well. DO THIS DAILY, not just once, the more exposure of your scents the better chance you have of recovering them, keep leaving your scent and reposting your flyers if they've been taken down. Also leave their bed out in front with a piece of your clothing in it (change out daily), again for the scent to be distributed, along with water, but no food since other animals might come to your home looking for a free meal. If they're sighted, go there, but if they're not there, leave a piece of your clothing to leave your scent so they might stay in that area, so you must check a couple times a day, and if you can walk back to your home from there, again touching everything to leave them a trail of your scent. Also don't think that because you live on one side of town, that they can't be found on another side, especially if someone has picked them up and they escaped them as well. Please check and see if we can share this post too, the wider the coverage the better, some sites are private and don't allow sharing, so look for ones that allow sharing for more coverage. Tap the 3 dots on the top right of post and allow sharing to public. Lastly be careful with these people telling you to use pet detectives or animal trackers, they're known to scam people, so go and research them first before you agree to anything. Will be praying for your furbabies safe and quick return. Don't give up, keep the faith!!

Create a scent station (items with your/your dog’s smell - unwashed bedding, clothing, toys, etc.). Check it often, especially quiet times (late evening/early morning). This step especially important if in an unfamiliar area! If you have another dog, walk the area with it on a leash. Check nearby Ring/security cameras in the area. Post simple signs (large neon poster, large photo, word “lost,” your phone number) in your yard and neighborhood. (Put in plastic sleeve/page protector first.). Contact the microchip company (be sure your contact info is up-to-date). Check the Shelter(s) at least every other day - in person! You know your pet best. Post on NextDoor app as covers your surrounding neighborhoods. If your dog is not spayed/neutered, may be why it is “lost” and traveling. When your pet is spotted, do not call or chase him/her! Just sit down on the ground and be very quiet. He/she is scared and any voices can push it away (even familiar voices). https://www.pawboost.com/blog/8-helpful-tips-for-finding-your-lost-dog/. Also, pet stealing is on the rise sadly. Check https://petfbi.org/how-to-protect-your-pet/stolen-pets/ for tips. Includes filing a police report, contacting your local media, checking Craig’s List where your pet may be posted for sale. Hope your pet is home safe and soon. (Note: if anyone asks for money or a code as “they have your pet,” this is a scam)

Dear friends, I’m reaching out with a heavy heart because my beloved dog Shadow is missing. She’s an Australian mix, black and white with distinctive polka dots, and a white streak on the back of her neck. She’s curious, full of energy, and so kind. She’s a huge part of our family, and we’re desperate to bring her home. If you see a dog like this, please reach out to me. Thank you so much for any help or sightings. She means the world to me."
