Message from Owner

My sweet boy cooper was placed on hold at the animal shelter while I went to get some help for myself. My friend assured me they will hold him till im done. Which was three months. My friend told me his hold date was extended till 5/30/26. He lied to me and my dog got adopted on 5/9/26. If I knew the real date I wouldn't of hesitated to get cooper! I'm asking for my pet to be located and given back to me with a $1000 dollar reward. He is my everything and I've been so lost without him. This was never supposed to happen. I was coming back for him was always the plan. The animal shelter didn't even call me to notify me and I tried to get a hold of them for the date. Please help me to get him back! I know cooper misses his real mommy and daddy!

West La Shelter Volunteers your mistaken bc they never called me and I had my phone while a friend was getting his time extended which they did theu held him for 3 months while in recovery and that's why they extended it. Then the "friend" that helped out failed to mention the last date was may 5th saying they extended it till the 30th. Which I confirmed with the shelter he got adopted may 6th. So yes they do hold pets in certain circumstances. If the guy helping wouldn't of lied to me about the last extension date I would of left willingly to go get my beloved pet cooper. Unfortunately the adopter refused to bring my dog back when the shelter reached out in my regard. This situation and not a day goes by of thinking about my pet. It was the best I could do with knowing the help would get me my dog back. Just letting you know. I'll never do that again and I shouldn't of listened to everyone going against my own morals. Hopefully he's with a great owner I just want to spend some time with cooper at this point. He was spoiled and I was trying to get out of a unhealthy situation. He loves dog parks and outside and can be arranged to see him again hopefully.

We feel really bad for the owners, but the friend who told them the shelter would hold the dog for three months was sadly mistaken. Just so people are aware, the longest the LA City shelter will hold a dog as 'personal property' is 30 days. The shelter simply doesn't have the space or resources to provide free boarding for owners who can't care for their dogs for a few months. In addition, the shelter makes numerous attempts to reunite animals with their owners who are on "personal property" hold, and if they don't come forward after 30 days, the animals become available for adoption or rescue.
