They demand immediate electronic payment for emergency surgery. The Ransom/Reward Trick: Someone claims they have your pet safe at home or in their car, but demands an upfront cash app payment, wire transfer, or gift card before they meet you. AI Photo Doctoring: Criminals take the photo from your social media post and use AI to alter it, making your healthy pet look bruised, bandaged, or lying on an operating table to manipulate your emotions. Account-Stealing Codes: A person claiming to help asks you to read back a 6-digit verification code sent to your phone. This code actually hijacks your personal social media or Google Voice account.
