Thanks for helping the cat find its owner before taking it to a shelter, humane society or rehoming it. Too many folks rehome found pets way too quickly. It takes time for the owner to even know they are missing since they'll sometimes stay away from home for several days. Use the info below that fits your situation. The cat likely lives in your same neighborhood. They rarely travel far from home. Look at the cat's paw pads. If they are soft and more pinkish, I'd say the cat is an inside cat that went venturing out for the day. If the cat has tough paw pads, he likely spends his day bumming food off neighbors. Keep in mind that a cat can also be relocated by someone that wanted the cat out of their neighborhood, the cat hitched a ride with the UPS driver, etc. Hopefully, this is not the case, but it is good to keep in mind. The best thing is to first put up some signs, take the cat to petsmart or a vet to see if the cat has a microchip, and put up a FREE post on: Nextdoor .com Lostmykitty .com pawboost .com Humane Society 24petconnect .com Petcolove .org/lost/ The signs are very important since they may never locate your post and cats rarely wonder more than a few blocks from home. The owner may not even have Internet to view your post either. Most of the sites above offer a flyer template. Tipped ear doesn't always mean feral/stray. Has the cat's ear been surgically tipped? It is a common practice used to signify that a feral or stray cat has been trapped, neutered, vaccinated, and is part of a Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program. Just keep in mind that some people end up keeping stray and feral cats as family and will end up missing their baby. Please don't re-home the kitty though. You can pretty much bet the cat lives around you. Even though I keep my cats safe inside my house, there is no law against cats being outside. It could be the kitty got his direction messed up and can't find the way back home. Besides, the family may also be searching for him/her. Even if you take the cat to a shelter, the owner or the family that adopts him could still put the cat back outside. At least now, the cat knows the area and knows you are one of its protectors. ❤ https://www.sanantonio.gov/Animal-Care/What-We-Do-Services/Outdoor-Cats-TNR If the search for the owner is taking longer than expected, contact a rescue and become a foster so you can continue the search without a financial concern. They will cover food and medical expenses.
