Be proactive. Cats that escape from indoors will most likely stay close by. They will go into hiding but come out at nighttime. Go out when it’s dark, or early morning around 5 am , use a flashlight and call out by name, look in bushes, under cars etc. Talk to your neighbors and get the flyers out , they are really helpful for those who won’t see your posts on the internet. Put out some clothing to attract the cat’s smell, if possible set up a Wi-Fi camera to monitor and if the cat comes- set a trap. The cat will try to find a food source so try setting up a food station and monitor. Report to your local police and if the cat is microchipped, make sure the info is up to date. I would also email or call shelters in case animal control picks it up. Check their websites daily as new cats come in all the time.

LOST CAT OPEN DOOR Scatter the contents of your hoover bag around the outside boundary of your home - they can scent their way home from miles away, using the familiar smell of your home. If putting out clothing make sure that it hasn’t been washed so that it smells of “you”. Going out late at night/ early morning when it is quieter and less noise distraction around will make it easier for you to hear each other’s calls. If you are calling for him make sure you do this as you walk towards your home not away from it so that if he follows the direction of your voice you’re leading him home, not further away. Also ask any neighbours to check their sheds/ outbuildings in case he’s been inquisitive and got trapped inside somewhere. If he is an indoor cat he is likely scared and hiding somewhere very close by - look under/behind any items/objects that he may be seeking shelter from - under bushes, behind bins etc. when searching at night take a torch - the light from its beam will reflect in his eyes and you will be able to spot him even if he doesn’t respond to your calls. Put up posters in all surrounding streets and inform the microchip company that he is missing.Put out water, and some of YOUR dirty clothes (dirty socks are nice and stinky)/blankets (dry in dryer first to enhance smell). Depending on the weather, you might want to put out a plastic tub with straw for shelter. Go out every morning and evening walking (folks seem successful around 10:30 p.m., but don't go alone) with food/treats in bowl rattling it, calling your cats name. Cats are often hiding within a 5-house radius. Do NOT give up. There was a cat a week or so ago, they went out every night for 5 nights, finally on the 5th night, they heard it's meow, it was trapped in a neighbor's shed. Another was hiding in a tree from the neighbor's dogs. Check buildings, bushes, trees, and storm drains around your house. Also in the house/garage, keep all doors/closets OPEN in case it's hiding in the house. If you can, leave door cracked open from which cat would most likely sneak back in during the night. If desperate, sprinkle your urine near the cracked door as stronger scent guidance. Worked for us!

She is probably very close to home, just scared & hiding. Look in the early morning hours and late at night when it is quiet outside. If chipped, notify the microchip company.

Do not put the litter box outside, it can attract predators. Ask neighbors to check their camera footage in case he was spotted. Get permission from your neighbors to go in their yards check under porches decks under sheds, cats have been locked in garages before. Put an article of your clothing that has not been washed outside. Check for them late at night, early in the morning before the sun comes up. Go outside with a flashlight, look for reflective eyes. Notify your local police department put up posters everywhere, leave them at various veterinarian offices and at local shelters. Go to the local shelters at least weekly, don't just call. Also ask about any pets that are in their medical section( this area is normally not open to the public). Post on all local Facebook groups, Lost Pet pages, next door app, pawboost.com, tabby tracker.com Petfinder.com Helpinglostpets.com Pet FBI. Com Lostmykitty.com
