My son doesn’t know yet. It’s going to be a very emotional time. I was really hoping I could find her. He’s 14 and they’re best friends. :( I haven’t clipped her wings because the cat looks at her funny sometimes. I don’t usually have people going in and out of my house. If my son was here she would have just flew back to him. I wasn’t even around to see it happen. I’m always really cautious about people opening the door. Man….! She probably would have came to me. This feels absolutely devastating. 😭

Here are some ideas to assist in your search. *Create a post on Pawboost, NextDoor & Ring, if you haven’t already. *During the daytime: use a wireless Bluetooth speaker to broadcast flock calls or your voice, shake treat bags or anything that might attract attention to food, put the cage out where it can be seen. *During the evening when searching is over, design & print off flyers with photo & contact information. These can be encased in a ziplock to keep weatherproof & posted in areas where allowed like parks, poles & any nearby gathering areas. Also drop off some at vet clinics, pet supply stores, anything within a 5 mile radius. Contact local shelters/rescues & even the police dept - they do pick up found/stray pets all the time. Make sure the world knows - neighbors esp ones that have bird feeders/baths/pools. Hand them out while searching the area. Join every local social media group there is. Run an ad in your local newspaper - some run one for free in lost & found (or cheap). Also check with local bird watcher groups - they’re always out & about. Flyers cannot be placed in mailboxes. *PLEASE CHECK WITH LOCAL ANIMAL SHELTERS & FILE A MISSING PET REPORT*

Take a deep breath and follow these actionable steps to help bring them home: 1. Immediate Digital & Physical Alerts Post Online ASAP: Get a missing pet post up on Craigslist, Nextdoor, and Ring. Check the Neighborhood: Ask your neighbors to check their properties and review their security camera footage. Official Reports: File a missing pet report with your local animal shelters and veterinary clinics immediately. 🚨 CRITICAL SCAM WARNINGS Never send money or verification codes to anyone online. Watch out for extortion: If someone claims they have your bird but demands money before letting you see it, it is a scam. Avoid "pet tracking services" offering help in the comments. Stick to local shelters and verified organizations. 2. Daytime Strategy: Sound & Sight Cues ⚠️ ONLY DO THIS DURING DAYLIGHT HOURS Bring the Cage Outside: Put their cage out in a highly visible spot where they might see it from above. Play Familiar Sounds on Loop: Place a wireless speaker outside. Loop a recording of familiar sounds to lure them back, such as: Their favorite person calling for them calmly. Banging food bowls or crinkling a snack bag. A favorite jangling toy. Microwave beeps, popcorn popping, or other household pets. Important: Shut off the speaker and disconnect the Bluetooth as soon as it gets dark. 3. High-Visibility Flyering Where to Post: Put fliers in heavily populated areas where lots of people will see them (schools, stores, bus stops, parks). At Home: Put posters of your missing bird in your house windows, your front yard, and on your vehicles. Printing Tip: You can email your flyer to Staples or OfficeMax to get them printed in bulk. ⚠️ Note: Fliers can be placed anywhere except inside mailboxes. 4. Nighttime Strategy: Digital Mapping & Outreach When it gets dark and you can no longer search outside, use this time to blast the word online: Google Maps Outreach: Google map your address and look at all nearby local businesses (restaurants, salons, bars, churches, tattoo shops, etc.). Check their website and use the "Contact Us" option to notify them. If they don't have a website, find their Facebook page/profile and send them a direct message. Facebook Group Blitz: Search for your town, city, or county to find local groups. Post on media pages, community boards, mom groups, buy/sell/garage sale groups, vet pages, and rescue shelters. Be sure to also join local bird-watching groups. Avoid "Facebook Jail": Facebook has strict rules about joining too many groups at once. To prevent your account from being locked, ask your friends and family to use their profiles to help you request joins and post.
