Thank you so much for helping! Many people are not on social media, and never see these posts. The first place owners go, desperate to find their missing pets, is to the shelters to see if they have been picked up or turned in. Call the local government run animal shelter asap to let them know where the pet is, and provide your contact information. The shelters will ask you if you want to hold the pet till the owners are found, or if you want them to pick it up. You can safely notify the shelter, and still hold on to the pet until owners come looking for it, if you want to. Many shelters have a lost and found page on their website that allows you to post the animal you found. Disregard any steps you have already done. Please understand I work nationwide and I am trying to help. Do not give away a found animal who belongs to its owner! Take to get scanned for a chip at any 24 hr animal hospital, Petsmart or any Vet office, at no charge. *If pet has tags, call Vet referenced on the tags. They can locate owner with tag # info on it. Check inside of the collar and harness in case owner wrote their contact info. Please post him on Nextdoor app, it's one of the best apps to post on since owners usually reach out first to their surrounding neighborhood area to see if someone found their pet. Also post to www. pawboost. com and www. lovelost. com As stated above, go online to the animal shelter website in the area you found him and submit a found pet report. You will be able to upload a picture. *If claimed, please ask for good proof of ownership before releasing him to anyone. Pictures or videos work well. There are too many people out there with bad intentions. Some are taking them to sell and others to use as bait for fighting dogs. Only release pet to owner! Do NOT give away an animal whose owners are most likely desperate to find it! Make sure they show proof of ownership before releasing pet. Have them meet you at their vet and go in and confirm ownership. Please don't turn him away or leave him behind. Call the animal shelter right away if unable to rescue. Thank you! Please update your post with city, state, cross streets, neighborhood ( push three dots at top of post to edit) Share to all the lost pet groups for your neighborhood, city and state. Share to neighborhood groups by push the curved arrow at bottom of post. Make a scent station in front of your house. Make paper fliars, even handwritten is good to start and put up at schools, vet, stores, dog parks and all over area. Nextdoor app is an important place to post. I got my cat back after looking for a month when someone responded to my paper fliars and $300 reward offer. So I always tell people to post paper fliars and offer a reward if possible. If you do this, do not pay anyone until you see your pet. Look out for drone and lost pet scams on fb. Call and visits as much as possible all the shelters in your area As long as there are fireworks going on - your dog will be in a 'flight or fright' mode - afraid and seeking shelter someplace hidden. It may be a while before the dog feels it is safe enough to come out. In the meantime - General Information: Set up a scent station. Get a scent that the dog is familiar with out in front of the house (EX Worn clothing / shoes from a family member/owner that the dog lives with.) Hang it out high so that the smell can travel and guide the dog back home. Keep an access point open in case the dog returns. Please post signs with the dogs' picture and your contact information on the sign. Post these signs all over as if someone spots your dog the person can contact you and provide a location of where the dog is. (Not everyone is on Social Media). Ask your neighbors to check their doorbell or house cameras (if applicable), sheds and garage. Owners: Do not try and search for the dog - as your scent travels when you are out and walking all over can confuse the dog. The dog should only smell your scent near your home. Never underestimate the ability of a dog to find their way home using their nose. Call or go to the Animal Shelter in your area and tell them that your dog is missing to see if it has been picked up. Prayers your dog is found safely. Beware of scammers.
