To parents of lost pets: Beware of scammers who will comment with links for "lost" pets services. And they will CALL or MESSAGE you also. Do not fall for their scams. Also, they call using what seems like legit shelter number saying pet needs surgery/help. Hang up and call shelter directly.

Dogs usially circle back around from where lost “Hang up outside, several items of owners (unwashed, dirty clothing for the scent to lead him back home...Hang them up (high) so the wind can pass through fabric and carry the scent...Dogs rely on picking up their owners to find their way back home...If he's lost in any nearby woods, cut up several pieces of owners (dirty) clothing, can use dirty bedsheets, tee shirts, dirty towels even dirty socks will do or even a pair of your old shoes...Take the fabric pieces in the woods and lay them down low on tree trunks close to the ground and leave them there, creating a (scent trail) to lead him out of the woods.” friend of mine left his old work shoes and a pair of worn socks and when he came back about 4am where he left them his dog was laying by them.

Praying some of these tips work.. PLEASE READ & USE the information below as a guideline, a plan of action with proven techniques to help you organize & successfully recover your lost pet. 911 LOST DOGS ACTION PLAN ** LURE DON'T CHASE ** First instinct is to yell your dog's name, run after them, get a search party, go2 looking for them in cars, quads or ATVS ** DON'T - DO NOT CHASE ** Any forward movement in the direction of the dog, even one step could, in your dog’s mind, could be considered chasing. Dogs hear better, anything motorized will scare them before you even get near their location. Criminals are hunted like that, IT WON'T WORK for lost or stray dogs. **SURVIVAL MODE ** Your dog will quickly go into this mode & begin to use their natural instincts, their behavior towards humans changes and they become focused on three things; food/water shelter & keeping themselves safe from perceived threats, which sadly can include his/her owner & good samaritans. ******* Understanding survival mode in dogs lost... https://holidaybarn.com/blog/dog-survival-mode/ *911 LOST DOG ACTION* PLAN *DO NOT YELL FOR YOUR DOG* Sounds wrong but its RIGHT! If you see your dog *STOP *DROP*THINK* WATCH this short video ASAP it will explain why yelling for your dog won't work, lost dogs will not even come to owners until they recognize its you!! This video gives you quick techniques to LURE your dog in. CALMING SIGNALS by Kat Albrecht, Missing Animal Response Network https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmiZzB643is&feature=share #1 DIRTY LAUNDRY & SCENT TRAILS Dog's know their owners scent!Leave worn dirty clothes out side or tear up an old t-shirt you've recently worn into little strips, tie them in bushes nose height to your dog every ten feet. Use liquid smoke in a spray bottle, spray on the ground in between strips forming several trails like a wagon wheel back to where dog was lost from. Even dogs in their own territory once lost & in survival mode can't find their way home! #2 START GRILLING YUMMY FOO The smell of bacon or bratwurst cooking on a grill is very strong and can lure your dog back. Once your grill is set up and the meat is cooking, quietly sit in the area for as long as it takes to cook. When the meat is cooked, you can place it on the ground or in your dog’s dish. If possible, set up a trail camera facing the grilled food, so you will know who has stopped by to eat and when (set the time/date function on the camera). * HINT You can make a quick portable grill using a doubled up 13 x 9 aluminum pan with charcoal brickets , use a coat hanger to stick in ground and hang meat over the pan to cook. KEEP THAT GRILL GOING! # 3 POSTERS/FLYERS Make them GIANT so that people driving by cannot miss them.Make them FLUORESCENT BRIGHT PINK OR ORANGE so that the color attracts the attention of everyone. Keep them BRIEF and to the point. Let them convey a VISUAL IMAGE of what you have lost. SET-UP POSTER LIKE THIS **TOP SPACE** PLEASE HELP!! In 5-inch black letters! ** CENTER SPACE ** Large color photo of your pet with brief description "GREY & SILVER SILKY TERRIER” ** BOTTOM SPACE ** In 5-inch black letters LOST DOG (or CAT or PARROT) Place your fluorescent posters at all the major intersections within a 2-to-5-mile radius of the escape point and at any locations where you’ve had possible sightings. *THE MAJORITY OF LOST PETS ARE RETURNED FROM POSTER SIGHTINGS* # 4 SOCIAL MEDIA BLAST Get info and pics out to these sites as well as your local lost and found sites ***-24petconnect listings by county & zip code..has found section and lost section - Helpinglostpets ***-Pawboost. - Lostmydoggie - Fidofinder •-Petamberalert - Critteralert •-Mylostpetalert -Findingrover ***- Nextdoor - Craigslist • LOCAL AREA LOST SIGHTS you can go on Google maps type in Lost and found pet shelters and it will pull up a local area list. #5 PET TRACKERS Proffesional pet trackers are one of the tools you can use to help recover your dog. However the steps listed above should be done first. Its what a GOOD, WELL TRAINED TRACKER will tell you to do FIRST. Most pets can be recovered before a tracker is even needed. Be cautious & wary of offers for CHEAP TRACKING with no mention of the above steps!! **CODES** Calls saying we have your dog asking you to send a code ARE SCAMMERS DO NOT DO IT. They want your bank account info
