Scan for a Microchip: Take the dog to a vet or animal shelter to scan for a chip. Many rescuers also carry scanners - ask around! 3. Put Up “FOUND DOG” Signs: Hang posters in the neighborhood - NOT everyone uses social media. 4. File a Found Report with Your Local Shelter. This is essential and often legally required. 5. Foster if You Can: If safe and possible, keep the dog in your care until the owner is found. Be sure to request proof of ownership (photos, vet records, etc.).
