Tiffany Rose I never advised putting the dog in your car with your kids and small dog. I personally would’ve leashed the dog and stayed til someone could meet me and take the dog. But like you said(now)…there were many variables. I understand you not wanting to get in trouble at work. I totally understand about protecting your children. I got mauled by an evil dog when I was 7. It ripped my cheek all the way through and tried to me. 150 stitches. You sound like an awesome Mom, and I really do commend you for coming back to save the dog. I consider you a hero. I’m sorry I made you angry with my response to your original post without all the variables. Peace, love and happiness to you.

Geoffrey Levine so you were on your way to help with this dog? I’m just having a hard time understanding how you could justify me potentially putting a fearful dog in a back seat with a 6 year old when I have no knowledge of the dogs temperament- that’s negligent. So I asked for help, at any point you could have gotten in your car and looked for the dog, in fact many people did- had this been different- had it just been me alone with no children in my car I 100% would have stayed but the fact I had to go to Lakeside and la mesa for school drop offs and then, given that I am in a probationary period for a new job downtown, I was not willing to risk my family’s safety or our livelihood in that moment. I did what I could with the resources I had which was to contact people who make it their job to help these poor animals. I’ve found many dogs and spent hours by myself gaining a dogs trust and then driving it to the Carlsbad shelters because it was the only one that took night entries. In addition to taking dogs to get scanned for microchips and reuniting them. So yes I had to make a decision for my family but I didn’t create the situation, I didn’t just drive away and not do my best to get her to safety even though I was not there. I’m sorry about your situation with your dogs, my dogs are freaking Houdini’s and have had to rely on my neighbors to help when our pool lady or landscapers leave a gate unlatched. It ed me to drive away this morning and all day I was on multiple sites helping guide people to where I thought she could have gone while trying to get the humane society and rescues out there in between client meetings today. And then the first thing I did when I was off was search for her and she is now located and safe thankfully. There are multiple variables at play to any decision we make, but you judging me for putting my children’s safety first when I have worked in child abuse and at the children’s hospital and seen what happens when dogs boundaries are not respected or when they become fearful and react. I have seen a child’s face shredded by a dog because of negligence, I was not willing to risk my kids for a dog that I could not guarantee was safe to be face to face with a child in my backseat.

Tiffany Rose Thanks for “trying” to save the dog the first time. I’m not going to say you did a half assed job… because you already realized that and went back to actually save the dog(which I actually really appreciate and commend you). But since you requested my pearl if wisdom…I’ll share with you that many of us would consider the dog was in an emergency situation that was more important than getting your kids to school a little late. Luckily everything worked out…but what if you returned to a dead dog in the road. Just saying. I’m not trying to pick on you…just being honest because I’ve been on the other side of that. Someone called me up and said they had my dog(got out of the fenced yard). I told him I’d leave work and meet him in 15 minutes. He said he didn’t have time. I offered him $100. No. $200. No. $300. No. I begged him. No. I finally lost my temper and told him if my dog I’d hunt him down through his phone number and get a receipt. He waited for me and I paid him. My point is…it was an emergency. Not picking on you. Thank you for saving the dog.
