Cats- hi Some general information: Stay off Lost Pet websites. They are too spread out. When we lose a cat the goal is not to let 200 random people somewhere in Arizona know that we are missing a cat. 😉 The goal is not to get the word out to people 20 to 40 miles away.😉 The goal is: To let people on your street know. To motivate them to look and let you know. See cats are usually less than 10 houses from home. A frightened or roaming cat will often hunker down in fear somewhere and stay there. Usually within a 3-to-5 house radius if they are indoor-only. They often do not come out even when you call them. Also, it's very important if you live in a coyote zone that you start knocking on neighbor's doors immediately. Don't just wait for your cat to show up. Knock on the door ask them to check their backyard while you stand there and wait! You don't want to say can you please check and let me know because they often won't. Rewards WITH THE AMOUNT inspire people to pay more attention and go the extra mile. Even people that don't like cats will help for the right incentive. I would put $20-$40 REWARD Phone number and 1 big picture of your cat on a flyer. Absolutely nothing else! Not lost cat, nothing. Tape them on all the garage doors on your street and the street behind you. 🚨Do not leave the litter box outside if you live in a coyote zone it draws coyotes! 13-year Lost Pet Advocate

🐾 Here are a few things to try if you've FOUND a Lost Pet in Arizona. 📍Since most owners start off driving around the neighborhood screaming and looking for their pet it's helpful to put a box in your front yard with: FOUND DOG or FOUND CAT in big letters so the owners will see it.🥰 📍Please post on Next door and the RING app. Inside the ring app click on the "neighbors" tab and post there. Please be sure to put the major intersection and City 1ST. Both of these work much like an #AmberAlert to reach the immediate community and that is where you want to focus since over 50% of Lost Pet cases are solved in the immediate neighborhood. 💯🎉 Next door touts approx 70% return rate. RING/ Neighbors by Ring has claimed a 69% return rate. See most dogs are within 1 mi of home when they go missing. Next door covers a 2-4 mile radius. Ring / neighbors by ring covers approximately 8. (Large breed dogs can travel 5 to 10 miles per day so this is important). Surprise and Gilbert Arizona have some of the highest pet return rates in the valley. 💯 Both of these communities are extremely interactive on the apps and are usually the first go to for a lost pet. Flyers have around a 7 - 21% return rate. (This is because there are 10 steps involved for a flyer to be successful.) It only takes a few minutes to download the apps and get a post up, making them one of the fastest and most effective ways to help reunite a lost pet with its family.🎉 The goal is to keep the search area small, and quickly reach the most people within a 3-5 mile radius. THE GOAL IS NOT to reach all of Maricopa county (you cannot effectively reach 10,000 square miles), nor to reach the whole state of Arizona.👎 THE GOAL IS NOT likes or shares. “Sharing for awareness” is not an actual search method, and is definitely the long route that often ends in failure. FOR BEST RESULTS ▪️ Post the found pet on both apps first to reach the most people in the search area since some are on next door, others are on ring / neighbors by ring. If you don't have access to make a flyer with a photo, you can make simple flyers using a piece of paper and a Sharpie. Packing tape works great for hanging them up. ▪️ Place 4–8 flyers at the major intersections closest to where the pet was found. At the exit points from the subdivision. Elementary schools are also excellent high traffic areas for marketing to the neighborhood. ▪️ A flyer only works if people can read it. Most people see flyers from an average of 20 ft away while driving by at 25 and 45 mph. 🤔 For that reason Flyers should be simple NOT the fancy AI Flyers that so many are making lately. They are too congested not visible from 20 ft away. Simply put: FOUND DOG/CAT BREED SIZE COLOR YOUR PHONE NUMBER THAT'S IT! ▪️ After you have the posts up and working for you, please take the pet to any veterinary clinic and have them scanned for a microchip. It's free and only takes a couple minutes... ▪️ Please DO NOT assume the pet was abandoned. Many are lost by pet sitters, or family members while the owner is out of town. Oftentimes they don't tell the owner for days fearing the reaction. Unfortunately this causes the owner to lose the extremely crucial first 48 hours to search for their pet. The best time to successfully recover a pet is within the first 48 hours. After that the chances go down exponentially. Others are lost by caregivers that are unfamiliar with how to search for a lost pet or will not put everything into it like the owner would. Sometimes a pure breed dog is found and zero owners come forward over several days. This potentially indicates that the dog may have been found and kept or stolen from the real owner. I have found when people simply find and keep a pet, when it goes missing they either don't look for it at all or they put in little effort for a couple of days because it wasn't theirs to begin with. Finders often assume the owners don't want their dog or they abandoned it, when really the owners were desperately searching. It's the thief that doesn't care to look and the owner has no idea.
