If he/she is an indoor only cat, they usually run to the nearest hiding spot when escaping because they are scared and don’t know what to do. The following suggestions apply to both indoor and outdoor cas. Check under cars, porches, sheds, in garages, and decks. Check yours as well as your neighbors. Put up flyers so neighbors can be aware and look out for your cat. Also look around at night under bushes and in shrubs with a bright flashlight. It may catch on the cats reflective eyes. Looking at night when it's quieter is good they can hear you calling them better. Looking right at dawn is also good because they may peak out of their hiding spot. Put out clothing that smells like you or the cats bed so they know which house is theirs. NOT the litter box because it attracts predators and they will go after or scare your cat away. Put out water for them. You may have to borrow a have a heart trap. Trappers have said Kentucky fried chicken gets them every time or just put sardines. Good luck. Do these things right away timing is important! Also, you can empty the contents of your vacuum cleaner and make a trail in your yard for him, starting where he exited the house. Also, check out Stella Dan Montuori Facebook page, owner of Dog & Drone Search D&D. Watch the pinned video, which explains the drag method he uses to create a scent trail for the cat to find his way home. He has a 90% success rate in locating lost cats. Create scent trails to guide your cat home. Get a towel with your scent or your home’s scent or the scent of any animals in the house. Tie a rope to the towel and drag the towel from the areas where you think the cat might be and create scent trails on the ground leading to your house. This can help the cat find its way home. You won’t smell the scent on the towel or the ground, but the cat will. Dan has found many cats/dogs with this method.

Please try these tips they have definitely helped others. Watch a tip video on youtube about how to find your lost cat, there are several. Post on Nextdoor. Also, your kitty is probably not far away so the sooner the better, put out something of yours for scent, putting out the litter box is not recommended as it attracts unwanted critters that could possibly scare your cat off again, use your judgement . Look with flashlight early a.m. or late at night, calling and shaking food. That part is so important because those are the quiet hours and your cat would be more prone to coming out of hiding. put up flyers too. If you get any sightings use a trap, sometimes you can borrow from animal control or Amazon has them. I have recently heard some take smelly, oily fish (juice only) (sardines, tuna) and make a “smelly trail” around their house to help with scent. Dont give up too soon , i had one gone for weeks and as i was about to give up, and I found her. 🙏🏻🙏🏻 and shared. Also just heard someone used a trap with smelly food and got their cat back very quickly Good luck
