Also immediatly contact and report your missing animal to: Kelowna spca (250) 861-7722 Okanagan humane society (250) 448-8554 BC Pet Registry 1-855-622-7722 Here are some research-backed tips to hopefully help: Source: https://fb.watch/oJ8SUK9n9I/ (via Front Street Animal Shelter - City of Sacramento) COMMON MISTAKES: - Waiting a few days to see if the cat comes home - Not checking your local shelters at LEAST once every 3 days (cats can show up in shelters weeks or months after going missing) - Don’t only do 1 or 2 of the tips LOST CAT BEHAVIOUR: - INDOOR ONLY - Panics from the stimulus, bolts, and hides nearby - On average, they’re found 45 meters away (50 yards) — that’s about the size of 2 and a half houses. (I spoke to one lady whose indoor cat was found even farther than that, so it’s just a ballpark estimate.) - OUTDOOR access cats (outdoor regularly) - Usually had a reason why they didn’t come home (e.g., being chased into an unfamiliar area, getting trapped in a shed or up a tree, or injured) - On average, they’re found within 315 meters (344 yards) — that’s about the distance of 17 houses in any direction from your house (a 17-house radius) - Both cats usually hide invisibly and silently, in a secluded area (like under a deck) - Skittish cats can hide for 1-2 months before finally becoming hungry and desperate enough to approach a stranger. (Scared cats do not meow! This would give away its location.) WHAT TO DO: 1. Make sure the cat really is lost (check your closets, cupboards, under furniture, and in upholstery) 2. Do a thorough search around your property. Check every nook and cranny. Cats are more likely to come out at night, so use a flashlight and look for the reflection of their eyes around trees and bushes. 3. Lure them back home. If you know which door or window they escaped from, try to leave it open, especially at night. Put their bedding and some of your used clothes near the bedding or your window. 4. Search the neighbourhood. Knock on neighbours’ doors, leave flyers if they’re not home, and ask them if you can look around (and if not, if they can take a look around possible hiding spots). It’s important to ask if YOU can look, because neighbours are less likely to get on their hands and knees to look around when it’s not their cat. 5. Set a trap. One of the best ways to catch a cat is to set a humane cat trap. Google “feral cat trap”. You might be able to rent one. See the video around 4:29 for what they look like and how to set one up. 6. Update your cat’s microchip. Contact the company every time you move or change your phone! 7. Make lost pet posters. Make them large, fluorescent, have a coloured photo of your cat, and the information (brown tabby, male shorthair, your phone) in letters on white paper. 8. Check your local shelter(s) at least once every 3 days. In the Okanagan, I’ve added the list of the shelters below. Always a good idea to visit the shelters in person. Only 1 in 10 cats at shelters get picked up by their owners, because people only check once or twice. 9. Check other resources (like Craigslist) 10. Use Finding Rover (now available in Canada), which uses AI facial recognition to scan participating shelters for your pet. 11. If you see your cat, stay quiet and calm (don’t chase them). Offer food and approach slowly. 12. Oh no! I’ll keep an eye 👀 out for your pet. In the meantime, check with local shelters in our area and put up posters where your pet was last seen. Don’t forget to file a missing animal report with ( 5,seven,1 )-4,eight,9-7,zero,0,four ) they specialize in finding lost or stolen pets. They found mine in less than two days after I texted them! Give them a try; hopefully, they can help you get yours back. The sooner, the better. By the grace of God, your pet will be found!

Likely close by within 5 or 6 houses away. Ask neighbours to check sheds, garages and under decks and bushes. Go out with flashlight when quiet and dark. Get posters up asap using zip lock bags. Leave soiled article of your clothing outside to draw home. Leave door open a few inches and kitty may walk inside typically between 2 and 4 am. Motion lights and security cameras are really helpful. Make sure your microchip information is up to date or it will be useless. Good luck!
