Tips Dog Lost Preventative My rescue escaped twice in two weeks years ago, but luckily was found and lived a long life passing away at 17+. I share the following in hopes suggestions will help others keep their pets safe after reuniting. Great news! General preventative tips below. Update "Found - Safe”, “Reunited", or something to that effect at top of the original post so all shares will update as well. Please share in comments, if you choose to and haven't done so already, how he or she was found, it may help others. Please put a prevention plan in place ASAP using the generalized safety tips that follow. Do not let out unsupervised or unleashed, especially smaller dogs even if in a fenced in yard because of the danger of hawks and other predators. Use gates so your dog doesn't have daily access to doors and especially when people or children are coming and going, and use gates or put in a room whenever there is a lot of activity and visitors. Figure out what caused the escape and how to correct it. If your dog is not spayed or neutered have it done, as unaltered pets are more likely to escape, travel further, and be challenged and chased out of their territory. This is especially true for males. Get your dog microchipped to provide an extra level of protection if he or she were to escape again and be found by a neighbor, rescue, or brought to a shelter. Also make sure the chip is up to date and registered to a tracking database. A chip that is no longer in a database because it expired, is useless. Have your vet test the chip periodically and make sure it actually can be tracked back to you. If your dog is found and chipped even tagged, it could save him or her from having to make a trip to the shelter. Shelter environments can be very stressful for some dogs. Police or finder can notify the owners to pick up the dog. Sometimes people don’t realize that some chips have annual fees to remain in the database as well. Tag is a good backup. What also has helped others is buying a tracker. It sends signals and uses a SIM card so you can get an accurate location. I know it’s hard but there’s always options available, it’s not cheap but it’s worth it. Hope this helps and happy to hear that your dog is home safe❣

Corinne Fluta she could still be in that area. Go to the area go door-to-door. See if anybody there has seen her or has a security camera that may have footage of her post on Nextdoor and Ring put flyers up in that area. And extend them out further also reach out to a Trapper. There’s a list posted below if chipped notify the Microchip company.

Tips Dog Lost Scent Trails You can help lead a lost dog to a feeding station or trap location by using scents that will attract him. 1. Set out a food bowl, preferably monitored by a trailcam or security camera. 2. Douse the immediate area around the bowl with liquid smoke. 3. Using a pump sprayer, make trails of liquid smoke outward from the bowl. Choose a pattern that works best with the terrain and vegetation. No matter which direction the wind is coming from, it will spread the scent in a cone shape when it crosses the trails. SCENT ARTICLES If you are bonded with the dog, your own scent can guide him in the right direction. Hang pieces of unwashed clothing on high branches where the wind can catch the scent.
