Please go walking through the neighborhood calling your kitty’s name and shaking his/her bag of food or bag of treats and use a laser toy to lure your kitty out to chase the laser pointer. Use a flashlight at night. Look under cars, by bushes and any other place where he/she can be hiding. If possible leave your garage and lanai door partially open. Your cat will try to get back inside, especially during time when it is dark outside. The only way to find the way home again is by smell. Use some of your used clothes, put them outside along with his/her bed and litter box but ***ONLY*** if you are keeping an eye on the litter box because it can attract predators. Go in person to the local shelter to check if your cat is there. Call your cat’s microchip company to report him/her missing. Post on Facebook Lost and Found Pets groups of your area. Check on Petco LoveLost website https://petcolove.org/lost/ There are many lost and found cats on that website. Post on Neighbors by Ring App. Its free and you don’t have to have a Ring Doorbell to get the app. There are Apple and Android versions of the app 🙏🏼 Prayers for your baby’s safe return 🥺🙏🏽

These are general search tips and not all may apply in your situation. Search at night w/ a flashlight (eyes will glow). Check up in trees and inside/under things in your yard and up to 4 - 5 houses away. Search garages, sheds, under decks and bushes, in crawl spaces, behind AC units - any place the cat might be trapped or hiding. Many cats go into hiding mode for safety and won't come when they hear their owner's voice but try calling and try either shaking a can/bag of treats or carrying an open (smelly) can of cat food or fish. Put something w/ the cat's scent on the porch (cat bed, scratching post, sofa pillows). Keep your garage door up enough to allow entry. Keep fresh bowls of water out. Put up large missing cat posters (neon poster board works well), talk to neighbors (leave info for those not home), post on all local social media groups and make sure to check with local animal control at least once a week (better to go in person but at least call and send them a photo). If not found at night with a flashlight, go out during early morning, before dawn, as many cats are active around that time. If not found in a few days, you can always buy a humane cat trap but traps *must* be checked multiple times each day, every day. If the cat is microchipped, please make sure the chip company has your updated contact information. And even if the cat has a chip, you still need to check with animal control as chips sometimes are overlooked or migrate down. Please search often and don't give up hope.

Go out early morning or after dark and quietly call your cat....chances are you cat is scared and hiding....take a flashlight ...if your cat doesn't come to you, shine it around to see if it catches it's eyes...under bushes and in the trees. Put a BIG, COLORFUL sign at the last place seen so people know where your cat belongs if they spot him or her…ask your neighbors to check sheds, crawl spaces and garages. Go to your local shelters every day or 2 to look for yourself…please don't depend on a phone call. The person you speak to may not be aware that your pet might have been turned in. If possible leave your door or window open a crack while you're home.

Be sure to GO to your LOCAL SHELTERS with a photo and report your pet lost (your pet may have been taken to a shelter that is not the closest one to you). They have a board for both lost and found pets. Many finders take pets they find to them. Remember, NOT EVERYONE is on Social Media. There's some excellent advice on Missing Animal Response Network on Facebook as well as their website. Additional advice can be found on the website under the drop down menu labeled lost pet help.

Give flyers to the local vet offices and mail carriers too!! Missing Animal Response Network has excellent advice on what to do when your pet goes missing. The section about NEON signs is a must but all of the tips will also help you in your efforts to find your pet. Try putting a large lost sign at the last place seen (someone else may have seen something). Also check on Craigslist under pets lost/found.

Try posting on the local Nextdoor app (if possible), lost. petcolove. org and watching Craigslist.🤞 Also try putting out unwashed laundry and some stinky shoes at the last place seen with you nearby and hopefully your pet will smell it's way back to you. DO NOT PUT YOUR PET'S BEDDING OR LITTER BOX OUT because it can attract predators where your scent will scare predators off but still attract your pet. If it comes down to it, try renting or borrowing a trap from the shelter... Put something in the trap that your kitty cannot refuse. Putting up cameras may help too. BEWARE of scammers saying they found your pet and want you to email them or send them a code. They will also tell you to text or connect through Instagram to a certain group that helped them find their pet. DON'T do it! It's a scam. Also, be wary of calls from shelters. There is a scam, copying shelter's phone numbers and saying that your animal is there and needs emergency treatment and to send money.
