Tammi L Priggins my sister in law actually just told me they had a cat gone for a year and a half. And he just returned a few days ago. I'm hoping our guy doesn't stay away that long but comes home soon.

Steps to Find a Lost Cat • Search nearby first. Most cats don’t go far — check under porches, decks, dense shrubs, garages, sheds, and cars. Walk your neighborhood and let people know. • Use scent to attract her. Place her bedding, your unwashed clothing, or familiar blankets outside. Cats rely heavily on scent. • Create a safe food station. Put food and water out only during the day when you can watch — leaving food overnight may attract other animals. If needed, set up a humane trap and check it often (every 30 minutes in harsh weather). • Check at night. Cats are most active when it’s dark and quiet (around midnight to early morning). Use a flashlight to spot glowing eyes. Call softly for her in calm, still hours. • Alert neighbors. Ask them to check garages, sheds, and yards. Leave them flyers with your contact info. Many cats hide close by. • Spread the word. Post flyers in your neighborhood, at local vets, pet stores, and shelters. Give one to your mail carrier — they see a lot of animals. • Stay calm. If you see her, approach slowly so she doesn’t run. • Keep checking shelters. Visit in person every few days, don’t just call. • Don’t give up. Some cats return within days; others may take weeks or even months. Many are found within a few hundred feet of home.
