Description

His name is Oliver. He's a 10yr old Orange Tabby with a "classic" marbled pattern, with a freckled nose and freckled paw pads. He has a blue leather breakaway collar that has silver stars and moons on it, a round tag that has his name and contact information, a "byte tag" QR code collar accessory that you can scan if you get close enough, and he's chipped. You might be able to lure him to safety with food or treats.

Message from Owner

Good afternoon everyone! If you have a moment, please read this... I know it's a lot of text, but any help is important. I'm reaching out here just in case any of you in this group happen to live nearby and have seen our cat. This is in the neighborhoods between Bolsa Chica/Heil and Bolsa Chica/Edinger. I've posted on the Neighbors page for Ring, on Nextdoor, on several groups on Facebook, and posts on many websites that make virtual fliers. I'll be making paper ones soon as well that I will be putting around. One of our cats broke out of our back catio early in the morning on Thursday 8/28, before I got up for work. Since then I have spent time looking for him around the hse, outside the hse in the back and front yards, the nearby foliage, the roof, and in our grge - but no luck. He hasn't come to any meals, and I've been trying to find him in our neighborhood throughout the day and at night since (I apologize if my calling for him has disturbed you at any point). We have since fixed the spot in our catio, so this should not happen again. His name is Oliver. He's a 10yr old Orange Tabby with a "classic" marbled pattern, with a freckled nose and freckled paw pads. He has a blue leather breakaway collar that has silver stars and moons on it, a round tag that has his name and contact information, a "byte tag" QR code collar accessory that you can scan if he lets you get close enough, and he's chipped. He has NO bell. You might be able to lure him to safety with food or treats, especially since he's been gone for multiple days. Per Nextdoor, the neighborhood and nearby neighborhoods that this specifically pertains to are called "Island Track", "Race Track Streets of HB", and potentially even "Huntington Village Meadow View". If you see this post and are in the area, please check your backyards and grges!! He has been gone for a full 48 hours at this point, and with how hot it can get in structures in the direct sunlight (not to mention the coyotes), I'm very worried about him. We normally never let our cats outside for their own safety as well as the safety of the local environment. He is a purely indoor cat. If you find him or think you find him - don't approach because he might be very scared. Please take a picture and attach it to this post in a comment, or message me directly with an image to let me know he's been spotted. If you believe you find him deceased, please reach out to me privately. Any information at all is helpful!! Potential videos from your Ring cameras, or other security systems, also help establish a direction he might have been at specific hours. I expect him to be in backyards, but I can't be for sure. I'm still recovering from an severe ankle injury, and its been very hard to search for long hours. Thank you so very much for your time reading this. I hope you have a wonderful day, and a great long weekend.

Please feel free to copy / paste / share this advice to help find a lost kitty: Distribute flyers- knock on neighbors’ doors and hand them out, and post them at intersections as well as any businesses close by. Flyers generate sightings. The more eyes out, the better. Mini flyers are also a great idea- LOST PET, a pic of your pet and phone number, printed 9 to a page and cut. Tape near doors of neighbors not at home. Many people save these on their fridge and call with sightings -Ask neighbors to check their yards, garages, sheds, under decks and any possible hiding spots. (It’s always best if they let you look.) The majority of people (about 85% rough guess) are kind and want to help. Some people can be indifferent or jerks. Please don’t let them get to you. Most successful reunions come from talking to neighbors vs. posting online- but please do both! -Post on Nextdoor, PawBoost and the local lost and found pet pages on Facebook. Post on Ring app as well. You don’t need a Ring camera to have an account and neighbors frequently post found pets and sightings. ***BEWARE OF SCAMMERS! Ask them to text you a pic of the cat they see. Beware of comments on social media that recommend pet search services on instagram, these are scams. Some will even ask for a code sent to your phone- never give this out -There are reputable pet detective services in many areas that use tracking dogs trained to find cats with great success rates. Consider using one near you. -Indoor cats usually stay within a one mile radius from home, though they can travel further. The majority are found within a 5 house radius. Outdoor cats tend to travel further, usually within a 17 house radius. Most indoor cats are found very close to home, as in a few houses away or a street over. They are usually found after getting sightings and with trapping. Some come home on their own, usually in the overnight hours. -Start searching at home, thoroughly search inside your home unless you know kitty escaped, check any potential hiding spots in your yard & garage. Inside and under sheds and decks. Walk your neighborhood. Check under bushes, up trees and rooftops. Under cars, nearby storm drains, shine a high powered flashlight into bushes and trees and look for reflecting eyes. They are masters at hiding and can squeeze into the smallest spaces. They usually will try to return home between 10 PM and 5 AM, most are on the move at dusk / dawn. They can often respond at dusk/ just after dark or at dinner time to the pop of a can. Some cats stay hidden for weeks traveling at night. -Don’t yell out calling for your cat or sound loud or nervous, keep your voice calm. Having a normal chat on the phone while sitting outside has worked to help draw kitty out if nearby **Do NOT put a litter box outside. It can attract feral cats that scare kitty away, or worse-coyotes and other predators. Litter has actually been used by hunters to lure coyotes 😳 A cat will be attracted by scent of his home / family, but a coyote won’t. Instead, put dirty laundry / bedding of your family outside on your porch or near the door, or place in the garage with the door cracked open a few inches. Continue to replace daily. -Is your kitty spayed / neutered? If not, they can become escape artists and bolt outside. They tend to travel further looking for a date, especially males. When you get your baby back, please get them spayed / neutered asap. Spaying / neutering is kind and not only prevents adding more orphaned cats out on the streets, but it tends to curb your cat’s desire to roam. -Check nearby shelters and online listings & stray intakes, but go to the shelters in person at least every 3 days. They’re not always up to date on their postings. -If microchipped, report lost to the chip company and make sure your contact info is updated

Go around late at night calling them with food and flashlight to catch their eyes. Check around your neighborhood under houses and in small places where they may hide. Put stuff out that has yours and their scent on it. Hang flyers around for people to see. Check shelters and vets daily. Update chip info if they have a chip and its has not been update since a move. Ask neighbors to check in their garages incase they ended up trapped in one. I pray you get your baby back safe and soon.

If s/he is not accustomed to being outside, s/he is probably close to where s/he got out. Most indoor only cats don't go more than about a 5 to 6 house radius from where they got out. S/he is probably hunkered down, hiding somewhere close by. Search low and high, go search the bushes at night with a flashlight and look for her/his eyes. Ask neighbors to look in their garages and sheds. Go out very late at night or very very early morning, stand in one place near where s/he got out and call her/his name in a calm voice. Don't put out the litter box, it will draw predators. You can put out her/his favorite bed, blanket, toy, or your worn clothing. You can also rent a humane trap, set and bait it with her/his favorite food and put your used bed sheets over it. Don't put out a trap unless there has been a confirmed sighting of the cat. NEVER LEAVE THE TRAP UNATTENDED. Be sure to check it every every 30 minutes or so. Post everywhere you can (Pawboost, Lost & Found Pets pages for your city & county, Nextdoor, the Buzz page for your city) and be sure to put up flyers in the neighborhood, and in everyones' mailboxes or under door mats, in the several block radius. Not everyone is on social media. Also check your local animal shelters to see if s/he was found and turned in as a stray. Many of them have websites with photos of the cats. If they have a deceased pets page, check there too. There won't be photos. The color, & age will be listed, as well as city & nearest cross streets. I hope you find her/him safe and sound really soon

Beware of scammers telling you to contact some Instagram or Facebook pet tracking service. They are bogus & just want your money.

Tips for Lost Cats If you haven’t yet, leave some articles of your unwashed clothing (socks, shoes, t-shirt, a pillowcase) outside for him/her to smell home. Change these out daily to keep the scent fresh. Never leave food or a litter box out, as this attracts coyotes/predators. 📍>>If you can, starting tonight please leave a door or window (even a garage door) cracked open for him/her to return through, especially during the night when it’s quiet out and when cats are most active; this works well, but may take a few nights if they are in hiding. Leave the articles of clothing near the opening. It helps to leave some food out inside the home to help lure him/her in. Don’t give up - cats typically attempt to return home during the night/early morning hours (~1a-5a).<< (keep any other pets safe in a secure room while doing this) Your cat is probably hiding nearby. Go out late at night w/ a flashlight and look for your cat’s eyes. You can try shaking a treat bag if your cat normally responds to that. Check shrubs, under cars, crawl spaces, up in trees and on roof tops (in case your cat has been chased). If you see your cat outside, he/she may be too scared to come to you - sit quietly and have some tuna, Churu paste cat treats and even a wand-type toy to help lure them over to you. Have neighbors check their garages/sheds. Leave out some water, since it’s hot out. Post signs around the neighborhood (even further out at intersections in case kitty has been chased out of the area), since some people are not on social media. *Beware of scam calls/texts/emails/messages that ask for a code - do not respond to them. Also, ignore all the commenters/scammers telling you to follow a link to a pet rescue/drone service on Instagram, FB or a website- all scams that ask for money.* (especially on PawBoost) Post on NextDoor, Ring and on local Lost & Found Pets group pages. Check and notify surrounding animal shelters and leave flyers there - also, take flyers to vet offices/ER vets, where someone may take your cat for a chip scan. If microchipped, notify the chip company that your cat is missing. Update/verify contact info if needed. If you have motion sensing cameras, check them to see if kitty has returned to the yard. This has happened to us - leave the catio door open for him (of course, making sure any other kitties are safe inside) - and/or leave a house door/window cracked open for him w/ articles of your unwashed clothing near the opening (keeping the others safe in a secure room while doing this). Best wishes that he is home soon - don’t give up.
