Create a scent station (items with your/your dog’s smell - unwashed bedding, clothing, etc toys, etc.). Check it often, especially during quiet times (late evening/early morning). This step especially important if in an unfamiliar area! If you have another dog, walk the area with it on a leash. Check nearby Ring/security cameras in the area. Post simple signs (large neon poster, large photo, word “lost,” your phone number) in your yard and neighborhood. (Put in plastic sleeve/page protector first.). Contact the microchip company (be sure your contact info is up-to-date). Check the Shelter(s) at least every other day - in person! You know your pet best. Post on NextDoor app as covers your surrounding neighborhoods. If your dog is not spayed/neutered, may be why it is “lost” and traveling. When your pet is spotted, do not call or chase him/her! Owners - Go back to the location where the dog went missing as the dog will usually circle back to the location where they first went missing eventually. Stay there - in one localized area and set up a scent station using a scent that the dog is familiar with - worn clothing or shoes from the owner. Hang that scent out high so that it can travel and guide the dog back to that area. Post fliers with your contact information and dogs picture in the location that the dog went missing --especially for those not on social media. If the dog is spotted the information can help provide what direction it was traveling. Check with local animal shelters in case he was picked up. Prayers your dog is found safely.
