I suggest sharing this information on Lostmydoggie.com, Petharbor.com and on Nextdoor.com for the area where he went missing. Those first two sites, like Pawboost.com are where people post both LOST and FOUND dogs, so sometimes you can find your lost dog (or cat) there. Nextdoor has the closest neighbors, as well as those a bit farther away, and a good way to publicize. The more publicity, the better chance of getting Butter home. I also suggest that someone make fliers and walk around the neighborhood, pictures/fliers in hand, knocking on doors to see if anyone has seen Butter. He could be scared and trying to hide in someone's garage or backyard. Take treats, and call his name. Is he chipped? Any dog or cat that someone takes to a veterinary hospital or shelter will be scanned for a chip, free of charge. If the owner's contact information is up to date with the microchip company, they will be notified. Some people say that leaving some item of clothing, or something of the dog's (a blanket, a toy) outside could help. Others say that searching nearby homeless camps might, also. I suggest checking all local shelters and veterinary hospitals, leaving fliers, and doing all of this, besides walking the neighborhood, every day. Good luck. I hope he'll be home soon. And when he IS, PLEASE get him neutered, chipped if he's not, and get an ID tag to wear on his collar all the time. Sharing now.
