Diana Ellis I do really appreciate all your help!! As soon as we find him, we will be getting him neutered. He's about 7 months old. I will be calling the shelters tomorrow, I already put him on pawboost and will be sending a neighborhood email tonight with pictures and a description. I am trying to keep my spirits up and will keep you updated. Thank you so much❤️

Jenna McKenna, you may well be right. It can be perilous for an intact male to be allowed outside because nature may call him away from home. For this reason make sure neighbors know he's lost using signs, flyers, and Nextdoor -- Sushi may have been seen of fed my someone in the area who has no idea where he belongs. Then thoroughly search using a flashlight during the day and especially at dusk (when it's dark and quiet) to determine whether he’s ill or injured and hiding nearby, or stuck somewhere. Check every crack and crevice, look in outbuildings, containers, vehicles, under foundations, sheds and porches, into trees, etc. — call and listen carefully for Sushi’s cries (he may alert you to his location). And it’s important to ask neighbors to do the same and make sure Sushi didn’t hide and became trapped in a shed or garage, etc. Please see this list of step-by-step instructions developed to help others in this situation (click on the link to the PDF) and let me know if you have questions. https://www.dropbox.com/s/huk0d1p6euu74ug/OutdoorCat.pdf?dl=0&fbclid=IwAR2TiOBxtcgt8odNRjcoGicoHsGDWrw3K9N4ox0GATJh4qGdsFD6T6gaXFA In addition, this video explains the temperament and behavior of a lost cat — it may instill hope of finding Sushi. https://www. youtube.com/watch?v=g2eCoC63B9I Good luck. Please keep us posted on your progress.

Kevin MaclaryThank you Kevin for all the useful tips. I've been looking for him about every half hour.I go outside and call for him. We did drive and walk around the neighborhood yesterday. I will also walk around with food and a light.

Go around late at night calling them with food and flashlight to catch their eyes. Check around your neighborhood under houses and in small places where they may hide. Put stuff out that has yours and their scent on it. Hang flyers around for people to see. Check shelters and vets daily. Update chip info if they have a chip and its has not been update since a move. Ask neighbors to check in their garages incase they ended up trapped in one. I pray you get your baby back safe and soon.

Diana EllisThank you for your concern and for your help. He was allowed to roam freely outside for a few hours at a time in the middle of the night. We would call for him a few times and then he would come back inside. We are night owls and are usually up really late as well. Since he has not been neutered yet,I think he's been on the prowl for a female in heat.

Jenna McKenna, Sushi is a beautiful brown tabby and white cat -- I'm sorry he's lost. You say he chases mice -- does that mean he's allowed to roam freely or did Sushi escape a fence, enclosure, or the house? His familiarity with the environment will dictate how to find him. Escaped indoor cats usually hide close by but are too frightened to return or respond when called; while a cat that knows his way around may have become stuck somewhere and needs help getting home. I have recovered many lost cats and assisted others so if you tell me about Sushi I can provide complete instructions that may help. Please understand an escaped cat may emerge when it's dark and quiet to sneak back inside — if you do just the right things. This usually happens within the first few nights so until I hear back from you please implement this strategy if Sushi got out accidentally: tonight crack open the fence gate or enclosure door (if applicable) and place tempting food at the door leading into the house, otherwise put something small but comforting and familiar outside the door where he escaped — do not use a litter box, bed, trap, or anything conuous -- along with tempting food at his point of escape. Call him softly to provide a familiar sound and direction (he won't come on command) then watch from inside (DO NOT GO BACK OUTSIDE OVERNIGHT!) and if you see ••• approach and settle on the food be careful not to startle him. Slowly and quietly provide a clear path inside and he may put an end to the crisis himself. If you can't wait up set an alarm and watch again just before sunrise -- it's a popular time. And although some will suggest putting out kitty's litter box, experts say DON’T DO IT. I've never used one in all the times I've been successful recovering a lost cat. Please read this to learn more about why it's neither necessary nor recommended: https://www.facebook.com/notes/lost-cats-georgia/why-we-dont-recommend-putting-your-lost-cats-litter-box-outside/1101245526665296/
