~Scent is KEY when pets are lost~ •IMMEDIATELY setting out your lost pets fabric bed, owners dirty blankets, and smelly wet food/water bowls will help them redirect back closer to home. •This should be the #1 thing you do when your pets get out. •Be sure to set these items directly outside your door or the location lost from back away from traffic. They are our family, but remember they are still animals at the end of the day. It’s a big scary world outside of our front doors with cars, strangers, and much over stimulation. NEVER chase after a lost animal on foot or with a car. (Imagine strangers chasing you when lost) This can cause them to run in fear more. Sit down, stay calm, quiet and do not yell out to your lost pet. Their minds are racing from being lost. It will take time for them to calm down, depending on the pet. Just like humans, they can behave differently when scared and lost. Be safe, be calm , if they appear aggressive, or too fearful to be caught contact a professional for assistance ( fight or flight mode kicks in) SCENT - is their #1 sense used when animals are lost to redirect back closer to find home, food, shelter, safety. 💕🐾🐶🐱 •This does not mean do not go look for them. •It is crucial the first 72 hours you continue looking to get sightings of them. •Look near area parks, playgrounds, nearby railroad tracks, wooded/dense areas to hide, in between houses/ privacy fences. (Common places lost pets travel to) •Follow up with posting on social media, lost pet sites , and flyers for those without social media. •Pound the pavement, talk to neighbors and ask neighbors to check their cameras. Usually someone has seen them or knows something. NEVER give up! We have seen reunions weeks, to years later. Continue to post, share and get the word out! Check shelters and rescues. Please be sure to ID & microchip your pets!!! 💕🐾🐶🐱
