Please list the streets/city where the pup was found. The info below will help reunite the pet with the owner. Please list the streets/city that the pup was found I n your original post. Post on Pawboost, post on Nextdoor, flyers in the area, notify the shelter that he’s been found, PetSmart or a vet will scan for a chip for free, thank you for keeping him safe. -- Have the pet scanned for a microchip. Most vets/shelter or PetSmart will scan for free. If the chip i*s not registered the I chip company can tell you which vet/shelter implanted the chip & that facility should have owner's info on file. -- Hang found flyers in the area the pet was found (not everyone is on social media) -- File found reports with shelters in the area the pet was found -- Review lost reports filed with shelters -- Post found ads on nextdoor.com (if you live within a few miles of where the pet was found), Facebook, Craig's List, newspapers, etc. -- File found reports on these websites: lostmydoggie.com, helpinglostpets.com, fidofinder.com, pawboost.com, petharbor.com -- Require proof of ownership (pictures, vet records) before handing over the pet. ***Most cities/counties require you to hold a found pet up to 30 days while actively searching for the owner before keeping or rehoming a found pet.*** If you cannot keep the pet safe while searching for the owner please take the pet to the shelter in the area pet was found. Owners check shelters first for their lost pets. **Please know a pet's appearance/condition/behavior change quickly when they are on the loose & scared. This does not mean the pet was neglected, abused or dumped. Many pets are stolen & dumped by someone other than the rightful owner. If you suspect abuse or neglect please turn the pet over to Animal Control as they will investigate the situation.
