GET SIGNS UP ASAP, DO NOT WAIT **LARGE, BRIGHT SIGNS, GET THEM UP, SIGNS ARE VITAL FOR SIGHTINGS. PUSH IN THE GROUND CORRUGATED PLASTIC SIGNS ARE VITAL FOR SIGHTINGS... DO THIS WITHIN THE FIRST 24 TO 48 HOURS. SIGNS HELP BRING PETS HOME. PEOPLE NEED A LARGE VISUAL WITH A PICTURE, IT HELPS TO IDENTIFY A PET AS LOST AND CAN MEAN THE DIFFERENCE IN A QUICK NOTIFICATION VERSES A DELAYED ONE OR NONE AT ALL. . Place signs at all intersections, up & down streets, entrances to subdivisions in the area where the cat was last seen or lost from. Plaster the area with signs, if the cat is seen outside the original area posted in move or add signs in that area... posting only a single sign in front of your home is pointless if the cat is further away from your home. GET THE WORD OUT THERE THAT THERE IS A LOST DOG IN THE AREA. . DO NOT WAIT IT OUT OR DEPEND JUST ON FLYERS & SOCIAL MEDIA. SIGNS SHOULD BE LARGE, BRIGHT! . Do not wait it out or depend just on flyers & social media. Larger the better, bright signs get attention. Signs vs flyers - signs can make a huge difference in whether your cat is recognized as missing and you being contacted sooner. . INCLUDE ON ALL FLYERS, SIGNS/POSTERS: *LOST CAT across the top *CONTACT INFORMATION at the bottom, 2 phone numbers are best. *LOCATION LOST FROM OR LAST SEEN IN *DESCRIPTION, SKITTISH/DO NOT CHASE OR CALL OUT TO, MICROCHIPPED *PICTURE - encased in a plastic report cover or large zip lock bag, use waterproof tape to seal and attach to signs/posters. (when attaching turn the cover upside down/so the opening is at the bottom before taping). Walgreens can make a stack of pictures that have a stiffer paper that is slightly waterproof/coated. . *Check your neighbors' garages and sheds, under vehicles, wooded areas. Cats that are strictly indoor cats tend to not venture far from their home. Check during dusk, dawn and at night, the cat will likely be hiding during the day when it is the busiest outside. . *Contact all shelters, vets in the area by pm and email, drop flyers off at nearby vet offices. If the cat is microchipped contact the company the chip is registered to, and they will mark the cat as lost and send alerts out to vets as well. . *NO LITTER BOXES/SOILED LITTER OUTSIDE, it is a myth. Please avoid putting a dirty litterbox out, it will attract predators like coyotes. Coyotes will/can pick up the strong, concentrated odor from a dirty litter box from up to a mile away. . PLEASE do not play meowing cat noises in/around areas that are heavily wooded such as preserves, this some say draws you cat to you, it can also draw predators such as coyotes to the area. . *Traps If the cat has been sighted you can get a 32-inch trap at Tractor Supply/feed store bait it with strong smelling tuna/albacore, canned cat food. Check the trap often throughout the night, it may attract raccoon, opossum, you will need to release them and rebait/reset the trap. Never leave a wild animal in the trap overnight, if the trap is unavailable because a raccoon or opossum is in it all night it is a missed opportunity to trap your cat. Be sure if using a single layer hand towel on the floor of the trap it does not prevent the trigger plate from closing the door when the cat steps on it. Do not bunch clothing up and place it in the trap. You can hang clothes with your scent on the outside, back end of the trap. You can also purchase an inexpensive field camera at Walmart or a sporting goods store. You can monitor the trap using an app on your phone, laptop, it will alert you of movement in/near the trap. If your cat is trapped get to it asap, do not let it sit overnight in the trap, there is a risk of wild animals, predators attacking the cat enclosed in the trap. . A GPS tracking collar, series 3 or 3+ or a GPS tracking device is recommended. AirTags are very unreliable and not recommended by Apple for use on pets . (Written by C. Missing Kitty tips: Get busy with these tips. Acting quickly is best. Important - If pet went missing from home, do these tips at your home. If pet went missing while away from home, return to the area pet was last seen. Then modify / use these tips at the site pet was last seen. Most important tips, in my opinion are: 1) make the scent trail as indicated further below; 2) give kitty an easy point of re-entry into kitty’s home. 3) it’s preferably to leave open the window or door kitty escaped out of. 4) be sure to d some of the scent trail items thru the open window (lay scent items thru the window sill, hanging down both inside and outside the house. If leaving the door home’s entry open, lay scent items on the ground thru door’s opening. 5) Leave the re-entry point open thru the night and into the morning hours. Kitty is most likely to return home between 1 am and 5 am. More kitty finding tips: - If kitty is an indoor cat it will typically stay in a 3 to 7 house radius of her home. - Indoor/outdoor cats can be up to 17 + houses away. - Kitty will hide during the day and only come out after dark between dusk and dawn. - Kitty may not come when called. - The majority of cats return home between 2 and 4 AM. - Go door to door and tell your neighbors and nearby businesses that your cat is missing, give them a description of kitty or share Kitty’s photo with them, and give them your ph number. photo and your ph number. The more eyes on the lookout for your kitty, the better. - Offer a reward if you are financially able to do so. -Place neon colored Lost posters / signs in your yard and in the neighborhood. List the reward on the Lost Cat signs. - Ask your neighbors to check in their sheds, garages and any vehicle or building that may have been open around the time kitty went missing. Kitty might have sought shelter there / hidden and then become trapped. - Also ask your neighbors if they have a ring doorbell or outside cameras. If so, they may have a photo or video of your kitty which will tell you what direction kitty was going. - Make a scent trail in your yard and on your porch with your unwashed laundry and sheets. Hang items over bushes and on your porch railing. Let trail lead to your front door, open garage or open window. Also out Kitty’s bed or blanket outside. - Leave an entry door or a window open that kitty can climb through. - Around 10PM warm rotisserie chicken or just chicken broth, put it outside. This is also a scent to lure kitty out of hiding and back home. Warming it makes scent travel further. - Throughout the night get up and go out side. Walk the 3 to 5 house radius and call softly, listen carefully. - Bring a flashlight or use the flashlight on your phone. Kitty’s eyes will reflect back at you. - Look both high (trees/rooftops) and low (under bushes or porch). Kitty could be stuck up in a tree or locked in a neighbor's garage. - A lady reported finding her cat recently. She set her alarm for 2 am, opened her front door, turned on her TV on low, placed an open can of cat food in the house near the door. Kitty came walking into the house. - One man set his alarm and got up every hour and another slept on the couch and heard the cat scratching at the door. - a lady who recently found her cat, sat outside overnight in a sleeping bag with a flashlight. She saw her cat walking right toward her in the early morning hours. Kitty came right to her! - Another tip is to use the warm chicken broth and make a trail of it from the street or yard up to the house. Even pour it in the bushes and trees where the wind can carry the smell. - your scent trail should always lead home. So start and end your walks at home. - Other people have used catnip to help lure their cat home. Alternatives to leaving a window or house door open. 1) open your garage door instead, even leaving it open just a few inches from the ground will do. Have a laundry trail go through the garage door opening and place some laundry in a comfy spot kitty can lay down. 2) sit outside overnight on your porch or in your driveway. Let the laundry trail lead to you while you sit outside. Have an open can of tempting wet cat food or canned tuna with you outside while you wait for kitty. You can also have cat nip or other delicious scented food with you. While outside sitting at night and on your walks, talk in a normal voice, or in the voice you use when you talk to your pets. Extra steps: If it’s in your budget, hire a pet tracker while pet’s scent trail is still fresh. And consider using a drone to search a large area. Yes, doing these tips requires some effort but to find a much loved pet, it’ll be worth it. These kitty finding tips have worked. Good luck and don’t give up! - [ ] Please feel free to copy / paste / share this advice to help find a lost kitty: - [ ] Distribute flyers- knock on neighbors’ doors and hand them out, and post them at intersections as well as any businesses close by. Flyers generate sightings. The more eyes out, the better. - [ ] Mini flyers are also a great idea- LOST PET, a pic of your pet and phone number, printed 9 to a page and cut. Tape near doors of neighbors not at home. Many people save these on their fridge and call with sightings - [ ] -Ask neighbors to check their yards, garages, sheds, under decks and any possible hiding spots. (It’s always best if they let you look.) The majority of people (about 85% rough guess) are kind and want to help. Some people can be indifferent or jerks. Please don’t let them get to you. Most successful reunions come from talking to neighbors vs. posting online- but please do both! - [ ] -Post on Nextdoor, PawBoost and the local lost and found pet pages on Facebook. Post on Ring app as well. You don’t need a Ring camera to have an account and neighbors frequently post found pets and sightings. - [ ] ***BEWARE OF SCAMMERS! Ask them to text you a pic of the cat they see. Beware of comments on social media that recommend pet search services on instagram, these are scams. Some will even ask for a code sent to your phone- never give this out - [ ] -There are reputable pet detective services in many areas that use tracking dogs trained to find cats with great success rates. Consider using one near you. - [ ] -Indoor cats usually stay within a one mile radius from home, though they can travel further. The majority are found within a 5 house radius. Outdoor cats tend to travel further, usually within a 17 house radius. - [ ] Most indoor cats are found very close to home, as in a few houses away or a street over. They are usually found after getting sightings and with trapping. Some come home on their own, usually in the overnight hours. - [ ] -Start searching at home, thoroughly search inside your home unless you know kitty escaped, check any potential hiding spots in your yard & garage. Inside and under sheds and decks. Walk your neighborhood. Check under bushes, up trees and rooftops. Under cars, nearby storm drains, shine a high powered flashlight into bushes and trees and look for reflecting eyes. - [ ] They are masters at hiding and can squeeze into the smallest spaces. They usually will try to return home between 10 PM and 5 AM, most are on the move at dusk / dawn. They can often respond at dusk/ just after dark or at dinner time to the pop of a can. - [ ] Some cats stay hidden for weeks traveling at night. - [ ] -Don’t yell out calling for your cat or sound loud or nervous, keep your voice calm. Having a normal chat on the phone while sitting outside has worked to help draw kitty out if nearby - [ ] **Do NOT put a litter box outside. - [ ] It can attract feral cats that scare kitty away, or worse-coyotes and other predators. Litter has actually been used by hunters to lure coyotes 😳 A cat will be attracted by scent of his home / family, but a coyote won’t. - [ ] Instead, put dirty laundry / bedding of your family outside on your porch or near the door, or place in the garage with the door cracked open a few inches. Continue to replace daily. - [ ] -Is your kitty spayed / neutered? If not, they can become escape artists and bolt outside. They tend to travel further looking for a date, especially males. When you get your baby back, please get them spayed / neutered asap. Spaying / neutering is kind and not only prevents adding more orphaned cats out on the streets, but it tends to curb your cat’s desire to roam. - [ ] -Check nearby shelters and online listings & stray intakes, but go to the shelters in person at least every 3 days. They’re not always up to date on their postings. - [ ] -If microchipped, report lost to the chip company and make sure your contact info is updated

Get a picture out to local delivery drivers and landscapers in the area. Give a the picture to your mail carrier and ask them if they would put it in their break room. They have eyes 👀 all over the place. Maybe can give a location sighting. Good luck in bringing your baby home
