Message from Owner

My cat has been missing since yesterday around 4 pm on West Side of Buffalo corner of Fargo & Pennsylvania. She might be injured as she fell off our roof top patio . My 9 year old went to grab her and startled her & she fell💔 We are heartbroken. She has no collar as she rips them off and she’s not chipped. Thank You. Jackie

They hide when injured. Go out at night looking in bushes with flashlight. Ask neighbors to help, check sheds, garages. Take flyers.

Leave door or window slightly open as they will often return through where they escaped from . Secure your other pets of course

The very best way to get her back is to leave your door open a few inches from about midnight to 6 AM with some things that smell like your family (like unwashed clothes or bedding) and her favorite wet smelly food by it… She will depend entirely on her sense of smell to find her way home (cats can smell from miles away.) ... she is likely terrified and hiding very close by but cats act weird when they're scared and often won't even come if you are calling them and they can see you… They feel safer and prefer to sneak back in on their own during the wee hours (between 3 AM and 6 AM seems to be the prime time) when it's dark and quiet… (she may have already tried to come home during those hours, but if the door is closed and she can’t get in, she will go back into hiding ) this really works! If this doesn't work make sure to check inside neighboring sheds, garages or other buildings… People often don't go back into them for weeks at a time so if she got closed up in one she might not be found for a long time… good luck… Keep us posted. 🙏🙏🙏

Search Community Cat Coalition and Missing Pet Partnership for tips. Post on all lost pet sites, NextDoor and your community's Facebook page. Some people have stayed outside all night and their cats have come home in the early AM when they felt safer to come out from hiding. A drone search and pet search/rescue service will help. Best wishes!

Most lost cats come home/ are found between midnight-5 am so that’s a good time to look. Door to door with flyers in the area and flyers with nearby vets and shelters really helps. If sighted, It’s better not to chase, lost cats are even more skittish and spooked outside and will even run from their owners. If possible, it’s better to sit at ground level and talk in a normal voice, which will bring them closer to you. Even better, bring some food, smellier the better - tuna, shrimp, rotisserie chicken. If you can safely leave a door or window cracked open specially at night, the cat might walk back in. They can get locked by mistake in sheds garages and bats, ask neighbors to check and if they can leave doors open for a while. A frightened cat in hiding probably won’t come out when people are around.
