Hi, I’m sorry about your pet! I’m a rescuer & here are my suggestions on how to get your pets home: 1. Borrow some life trap from animal control or one of the rescues or buy them from Tractor Supply or any of the feed store. 2. At dusk, put it out w/ hot boneless chicken in it for dogs or mackerel/tuna for cats & his/her bedding & your dirty socks on top of it at the last spot he was seen & at every corner of your property! Put a trail camera near it so you can see when they’re tripped & see if it’s him or not! 3. You also need to hang your dirty socks on the outlines of your property so he/she can smell his/her way back home! You can buy garden stakes from dollar stores & hang the dirty socks from them so they’ll be off the ground & he can smell them better. 4. You might also want to do that on the streets leading to your home? Be sure to replace with dry dirty socks if it rains! You can use your dirty clothes too but dirty socks are recommend because your odor is trapped on them better! 5. If you haven’t already done so, post him/her in the Pawboost & ALL the Lost & Found sites in your area within 3 hrs. of driving incase he got in someone’s vehicles! 6. Call your local shelter as well as the surrounding shelters DAILY but you SHOULD GO IN PERSON whenever possible & ask them to take you to THE WHOLE SHELTER, not just the front where adoptable pets are at! He could be injured & put in medical hold, he could be scared & lashes out so they’d put him in the behavioral section, he could be in the euthanasia hold & whatever! Also ask to look at the pictures of all the cats that DOA or were euthanized! This will hurt but at least you’ll have closures!💔🙏🏽 7. But check at other shelters around your area because if someone found him but didn’t have time to take him to your shelter, they’d take him to THEIR shelter thinking they’re all connected but THEY ARE NOT! They won’t even call your shelter to notify your shelter that they have one of the dog from your area! 8. Make flyers & post them at every stores, gas stations, vet & grooming offices, your neighbors & delivery drivers/Mail man since they drive around the area & can see your dog/cat! 9. Ask neighbors w/ in a couple of miles radius to check their door bell’s & security cameras going back to when he went missing! And if you get your cat back, please put a tracker on him since he likes to break out! And if you could, build a Catio on your back yard or screened your back porch so he can be outside yet still be protected! I’m guessing he was a Stray Cat before. It is just simply NO LONGER SAFE nor make sense to keep cats outdoors here anymore! With so many constructions displacing predators especially coyotes & ing their food supplies, they have no choice but eat our poor outdoor cats! It takes several months for them to get used to being inside full time, but if the cat totally hates being inside, a catio placed right next to your house would be great, that way the can still live outside but be safe inside the catio! Mine loves theirs so much, even when I leave the door open they won’t get out! Good luck to you & don’t ever give up! There are cats/dogs that have been lost or accidentally transported across country that made it back!🙏🏽.
