Message from Owner

We had entrusted Poppy to a friend while away on a fishing trip. Something we often did. Unfortunately, Poppy escaped during this time, and the individual responsible failed to inform us and has since become unreachable. By the time we became aware of the situation and contacted your centre, we were devastated to learn that Poppy had already been rehomed and the pound would give no info on here whereabouts or simply if she was safe. Poppy is not just a pet, Daryl has had her since she was 10 weeks old, and she has been his constant companion for the past 5 years since moving to Australia from Northern Ireland. The sudden loss without closure is causing immense distress. We are also deeply concerned for Poppy’s wellbeing. She would be frightened and confused without Daryl and not knowing whether she is safe, cared for or in the right hands is something we are struggling to cope with. The thought that she may have ended up in unsafe circumstances is truly overwhelming. This may be a long shot but any sightings or help would be truly appreciated by two heartbroken people.

Tracey Holland they definitely should be able to pass on the details even if they won't give out the new owners details

Can you ask the pound to contact the person who adopted her and let them know your situation?

Chris McPhee there are many dogs out there not registered or microchipped and from people that know they should be. Its not uncommon

Mice Reader This post is made by Pawboost, not the owner. For some reason, they've written incorrect info, and the owner is getting the blame and suion. But yeah, no excuse for not chipping in this day and age and living in suburbia. I just hope Poppy is happy and well. Would be nice if the guy could find out.

Suzanne Morey thank you I would love to have her back but if I can see she is happy and loved and the new owners don't want to give her back then I understand. It's very upsetting obviously I was angry with the person on the phone and said a few bad words which is normal they more or less couldn't help me or wouldn't help me and then they cut me off

Daryl Hart I have just messaged the councillor again. Asked him to investigate why Poppy was taken to the pound and rehired so fast. I have 2 rescue dogs that I adore , Milo was surrender to the Shelton Park dog Refuge when his family lost their rental home and had to move in with family who didn’t want him to be at their place. He was adopted and re surrendered twice in 2 days. When I got the phone call from them and went to see him, he was so shut down and depressed he was under the front desk facing inwards. He wouldn’t respond to the staff or look at anyone he was so traumatised. I adopted him and brought him home, he has settled in and now knows what safe feels like. That is why I am so outraged that this has happened to your beloved dog.

Please stop spreading incorrect information. Poppy was found by a kind member of the public in MARCH who shared her photo all over Facebook, before handing her over to the Rangers. She was held for some times whilst they waited for an owner to come forward but as Poppy was neither microchipped nor registered, they couldn’t contact anyone. From there she was rehomed, but not after waiting for someone to come forward (again, remember she was found wandering in March, not May) Neither the council nor the new owners have done anything wrong. The person that lost this dog claims they didn’t know the laws around microchipping, which means they never bothered to take poppy to a vet, or contacted the council to register her (these are also legal requirements back in their home country).

It seems people are not reading this properly.. Unfortunately the links 🔗 in this explanation of Poppy missing story does not add up!! As obviously a few other people have also noted.. Anyone who has lived in Australia for as long as this man has no excuse not to familiarise himself with the laws that govern ownership of dogs.. My sympathy is with Poppy.. All this would have definitely been avoided if the owner in question had her microchipped so that the pound would have contacted him!! My opinion is people should not blame the rangers for owners negligence.
