Message from Owner

Nian Nian has been part of our family for 8 years and always a good friend with us. He is an indoor & outdoor cat, runs a lot but loves his families, he came back every night except 7 days ago. Both my kids and us are heart broken, we are looking activity for him everyday but no luck so far. We truly hope he is ok, hoping he can make his way back. We are in highlands area, please let me know if you have ever seen him, any clue will be greatly appreciated!

I found my friends indoor cat after 10 days of being outside by placing a trail of her dirty laundry towards a slightly open garage door. Her cat came home the very night I did this. I hope you find your fur baby.

No matter how long your kitty has been gone, stay vigilant with all lost cat protocols and advice - kitty may have been taken in by a well meaning person and could be very near - keep posters and flyers fresh and communications current with local animal control, vets, and rescues for new leads - keep the faith 💪🏼 Use whatever is applicable in the following for your situation: Extra strength prayers your kitty is safe nearby (cats usually stay in the vicinity) and home very very soon - put their food and shelter outside your door in a protected area and/or in your garage - diligently canvas the area and local businesses with large colorful posters and flyers - contact local animal control, vets, and rescues for any possible leads - cross post on neighborhood/community FB pages for further reach - cats are superior survivalists - stay vigilant in searching and don’t lose hope 🙏🏻❤️💪🏼 P.s. Beware of scammers saying they have found your kitty and to message them your contact information. And also how an Instagram/FB site helped them find their pet - don't click on site. All BS scammers. 🙏❤️💪🏼

Lost Indoor/outdoor cat advice : Please check with neighbors for accidental trap ( in garages or garden sheds etc) that quite often happens with indoor / outdoor kitty. If they don’t let you search these area in person please ask them to leave them open for few hours to give time to escape. Have you left his scented items or your unwashed cloth out? (NO LITTER BOX as it attracts predators and other local cats instead!) Could any other cat recently come to your neighborhood as cats are very territorial and might have pushed him out of his territory and too scared to come back. Call him at night preferably 12-5 am with calm voice as they pick distress in your voice and not show up. With use of flash light check top of roofs or trees. Leave the door or window he went out last time crack open all time preferably, he may come back on his own. Put big Neon flyers up and distribute small fliers to your neighbors 10 doors at least each direction. My prayers for his safe return.

General Information: Hang clothes with your scent on it high up outside so the familiar scent can travel and guide the cat back home. Ask your neighbors to check their yard/could be accidently stuck in their garage or shed. (If applicable) Check doorbell or home camera - or ask neighbors to check their camera. Post Fliers with a picture of the cat and your contact information in the area the cat went missing. Not everyone is on Social Media and posters have worked in that if spotted a location can be provided. If a cat is scared they make themselves safe by finding a good hiding spot and often times hide in silence. Look in bushes - bring a flashlight and look for shining eyes. Best time to find your cat is in the early morning hours when the noise level is low and they feel safe. Leave an access point open for the cat to return. This is important if they do come back in the middle of the night. Prayers your cat returns/ or is found safely.

Create a scent station (items with your/cat’s smell - unwashed bedding, clothing, cat tower, etc. Do NOT put out litter pan as feces often used to mark territory and may inadvertently attract predators or territorial cats.). Check it often, especially when things are quiet (late evening/early morning). Leave the garage door open 5” overnight. Check nearby Ring/security cameras in the area. Check in and under everything inside and outside with a flashlight. Cats don’t usually go far and freeze in a tight ball in very small, tight, dark areas when scared. The flashlight catches their eyes’ stare, especially at night. Thoroughly check inside your home, especially if this is a new/shy/scared pet. Post on NextDoor app as it covers your local neighborhoods. Be sure to check your local animal shelter in person at least every other day (can’t stress enough - in person!!! You know your pet best plus animals constantly brought in). If your cat is not spayed/neutered, may be why it is “lost” and traveling further. Hope your pet is home safe and soon. (Note: if anyone asks for money or a code as “they have your pet,” this is a scam). https://www.pawboost.com/blog/7-effective-search-tips-for-finding-your-lost-cat/ https://petfbi.org/i-lost-a-cat/tips-to-lure-a-cat-back-home-2/
