Tips for Lost Cats If you haven’t yet, leave some articles of your unwashed clothing (socks, shoes, t-shirt, a pillowcase) outside for him/her to smell home. Change these out daily to keep the scent fresh. Never leave food or a litter box out, as this attracts coyotes/predators. 📍>>If you can, starting tonight please leave a door or window (even a garage door) cracked open for him/her to return through, especially during the night when it’s quiet out and when cats are most active; this works well, but may take a few nights if they are in hiding. Leave the articles of clothing near the opening. It helps to leave some food out inside the home to help lure him/her in. Don’t give up - cats typically attempt to return home during the night/early morning hours (~1a-5a).<< (keep any other pets safe in a secure room while doing this) Your cat is probably hiding nearby. Go out late at night w/ a flashlight and look for your cat’s eyes. You can try shaking a treat bag if your cat normally responds to that. Check shrubs, under cars, crawl spaces, up in trees and on roof tops (in case your cat has been chased). If you see your cat outside, he/she may be too scared to come to you - sit quietly and have some tuna, Churu paste cat treats and even a wand-type toy to help lure them over to you. Have neighbors check their garages/sheds. Leave out some water, since it’s hot out. Post signs around the neighborhood (even further out at intersections in case kitty has been chased out of the area), since some people are not on social media. *Beware of scam calls/texts/emails/messages/comments. Post on NextDoor, Ring and on local Lost & Found Pets group pages. Check and notify surrounding animal shelters and leave flyers there - also, take flyers to vet offices/ER vets, where someone may take your cat for a chip scan. If microchipped, notify the chip company that your cat is missing. Update/verify contact info if needed. If you have motion sensing cameras, check them to see if kitty has returned to the yard. Best wishes.

Put food out, put out favorite person's unwashed clothes so your cat can smell their scent and anything unwashed with scents of your lost cat as well, except litter boxes because those attract predators. Post on NextDoor, Pawboost, Pet FBI, & Petco Love Lost. Put up flyers everywhere, distribute mini flyers to your neighbors withing a 6 block radius including your mail carrier, fedex, and ups delivery guys, Check neighbors sheds, garages, window wells, under decks, porches and anywhere they could be hiding. Look up~ cats do get stuck in trees or light posts. Many people think they can get down themselves but Ive seen many situations where they've needed to be rescued after many days being stuck. Cats get themselves in many predictaments. Put a night vision motion detected camera outside to see if your cat is showing up at night. Search at night with a flashlight, checking bushes, under decks & porches, in sheds, window wells and anywhere they could be hiding. Check with rescues, humane societies and animals control and follow up with them consistently! When checking with humane societies and animal control facilities, make sure to check in person every few days. Dont rely on them to contact you, even if you have brought them a flyer and/or your cat is microchipped. Sadly they dont always check. Set a live trap with canned tuna (for hard to trap cats I used a mixture of tuna, oysters and sardines) Cover the trap and always monitor it for the safety of your cat and to also make sure you dont catch wildlife. No matter how friendly a cat may be, indoor-only cats tend to become skittiish once outside and in unfamiliar territory, and usually hide nearby and often too scared to come to owners voice. They also usually try to enter the way the escaped, so if its safe to do that, leave that open. That did work for one of my very shy cats before. Time is crucial. Praying you find your cat soon and safe. Trapping was the only way to get my kitty back in after she scratched a hole through the screen and escaped. The flyers helped me figure out that she was hiding a couple of blocks away, because people called me with sightings. She was scared to come to anyone, even me. I set traps and eventually caught her. My advice I posted isnt something I just got off the internet, its literally my own personally experience and also experience from doing rescue and helping others. I pray you get your cat back. I know how heartwrenching it was when my baby was out there. NextDoor has an App but you can also access online as well.
