Message from Owner

We’re looking for our parakeet Koivu, lost near Adelphi & Myrtle. He’s a curious little bird who usually wants to be close to us, and we’re hoping he finds his way back. He may be high up in a tree or on a rooftop. If you see or hear him (he may wish you 'good day'), please text. Please don't chase. Thank you!

Likely new sighting today in Kensington near 287 Webster Avenue. Almost five miles south now. Someone should probably explain to him that birds fly south for the winter, not for a Brooklyn summer vacation. We'll be heading down to put up posters. Reports suggest he is traveling with a posse of sparrows, much like Mei Mei, the famous Central Park parakeet. Apparently, sparrows are now operating an unofficial witness protection program for escaped budgies.

We are still looking for Koivu. Yellow head, cobalt cere, light green/yellow/blue body with grey markings (no black). Friendly fellow (he will talk to you) -- we think he knocked on someone's window (or flew in) asking for a rescue -- so he might ask, "Where's Scott?" We have a bunch of folks on the lookout (GIANT thanks to everyone, sincerely appreciated). Where's Koivu?

He was seen yesterday on a 6th floor balcony on Prospect Place between Classon and Franklin. Calm, and friendly. He can be bribed to come in by riding on a glass of water, or you. Don't chase him, let him be on his own terms. Calm him with saying, "good day" and "good bird." It's hot and he is likely ready to come home from his great adventure.

Posted on Lost and Found birds of the US. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1HBtFnZ3de/?mibextid=wwXIfr We are so sorry to hear your bird is missing. Here are some ideas to assist in your search. *Create a post on Pawboost, NextDoor & Ring, if you haven’t already. *During the daytime: use a wireless Bluetooth speaker to broadcast flock calls or your voice, shake treat bags or anything that might attract attention to food, put the cage out where it can be seen. *During the evening when searching is over, design & print off flyers with photo & contact information. These can be encased in a ziplock to keep weatherproof & posted in areas where allowed like parks, poles & any nearby gathering areas. Also drop off some at vet clinics, pet supply stores, anything within a 5 mile radius. Contact local shelters/rescues & even the police dept - they do pick up found/stray pets all the time. Make sure the world knows - neighbors esp ones that have bird feeders/baths/pools. Hand them out while searching the area. Join every local social media group there is. Run an ad in your local newspaper - some run one for free in lost & found (or cheap). Also check with local bird watcher groups - they’re always out & about. Flyers cannot be placed in mailboxes. *PLEASE CHECK WITH LOCAL ANIMAL SHELTERS & FILE A MISSING PET REPORT*
