I’m posting on behalf of a coworker who is trying to find the right home for a senior German Shepherd named Bear. Bear is a 7-year-old male German Shepherd who was recently taken in from a difficult situation. From what they can tell, he spent much of his life outside, was likely underfed, and has old injuries on his front legs/paws. Because of that, he is sensitive about having his front legs touched. Bear needs an experienced dog owner, ideally someone familiar with German Shepherds or rescue dogs. He would do best in a quiet adult home with land or room to roam, where someone has the patience to help him decompress, feel safe, and learn to trust again. To be fully transparent, Bear is not a good fit for a home with young children, cats, kittens, or small animals. He has been chasing cats/small animals, and the current family has a baby due any day, so they simply do not have the bandwidth to take on the training and care he needs. There is no rehoming fee. The priority is finding Bear the right home. He may also have some medical needs that are not yet fully known, so he needs someone willing to be patient and possibly have him evaluated by a vet. His current family is near Esmont/Charlottesville, VA, and they are willing to drive to help him get to a good home.
