How to Find a Lost Cat • Do a thorough search of your home, garage, and surrounding “out buildings” (shed, pool house, etc.). Don’t forget to look carefully in closets, cabinets, your attic and bat, and even your clothes dryer. Ask your neighbors if you could look under crawl spaces, decks and porches, sheds, garages. Carry a bag of yummy cat treats with you, shaking it and calling their name while you look. One of the best times to search is late at night or the middle of the night when it’s most quiet. Also, the flashlight will reflect off of their eyes before you can see them. • Take your bag of cat treats or some warmed up tuna outside with you and call their name. Your cat might be lurking nearby, even if you can’t see them. Be diligent, the cat may be spooked and will not come out of hiding until they feel ready and safe to do so even if they hear you calling them. • Contact your microchip and/or tag company to let them know your cat is missing. • Contact all veterinary clinics, hospitals, and animal ERs in your area. • Report lost to CMPD Animal Care & Control and monitor their website (they update their website with found pets so check throughout the day, every day), someone may have brought your pet there or they may have been picked up. You can create a lost report by uploading a photo of your pet along with specific details, or call 311. Special Note: Please know that the shelter no longer takes in adult cats that reside outside; this could be an owned indoor/outdoor cat or a community cat and there is no leash law so they are allowed to roam. Learn more about community cats and what to do if you see a cat outside. They will only pick up a cat if it’s sick or injured. If someone brings in a “stray” that appears healthy, they will ask the Good Samaritan to return the cat to where they found it. Pet Harbor updates every hour so owners can look at a current inventory for their lost pet. Owners should come to the shelter every day to look for their lost pet in person (in combination with watching Pet Harbor and checked social media lost/found pages). To see if your pet has been found in the community, or if it was brought to Animal Care & Control, go to: https://charlottenc.gov/AnimalsCMPD/lostandfound/Pages/default. You can make up a flyer and email it to accfacebook6@gmail.com. You can create a flyer at www.ReturnMyPet.com or at pet bond.com/flyerentry.php. They will post the flyer on their website so that it can be circulated. • Ask your friends and neighbors to keep an eye out for your missing cat around the neighborhood. • Plaster your neighborhood and town with “Lost Pet” posters. Focus on high-traffic areas like cafés. • Expand your reach online. ◦ Engage your social media network ◦ Reddit has a Lost & Found Pet area ◦ Post to the local lost and found pets section of Craigslist ◦ Post on Lost & Found Pets - Charlotte and Pawboost ◦ Post on Nextdoor Contact EPIC Animal Recovery lostpets@epicanimalrecovery.org Team EPIC is dedicated to Lost Pets and the families who miss them. “Through proven recovery methods developed in the field, we use a multitude of recovery techniques; ranging from signage to advanced trapping, based on animal behavior.” “Our success rate is attributed to a dedicated team, highly trained Search Dogs and our NO PET LEFT BEHIND Philosophy.” Common lost/found sites to share your found flyers and look for lost pets that have been posted and make reports: * Helping Lost Pets * Lost & Found Dogs - North Carolina * Lost and Found Pets-Charlotte * Paw Boost * NextDoor.com * Craigslist * Lost and Found Pets Mecklenburg County, NC * Charlotte, NC - Lost Dogs, Cats, & Pets * Charlotte, NC - Lost and Found Pets, and Surrounding Area's * Petco Love Lost * Pet FBI * Fido Finder * Tabby Tracker * 24 Pet Watch * 24 Pet Connect * AC&C Facebook lost pet album * AC&C Facebook found pet album * Lost Pets Charlotte NC Pet Owners: if you have moved, changed your phone number, or haven't registered your pet's microchip with us, UPDATE OR REGISTER their microchips right now at CMPD Animal Care & Control. https://www.charlottenc.gov/cmpd/Animal-Care-and-Control Lost Cat Behaviors Information: https://www.pawboost.com/blog/lost-cat-behavior/?fbclid=IwAR1U2h57iL05NkH66mL5uqiILAQdcpa4sbhof8DAEwa-YWRDQ29OWdtD0kY&mibextid=5zvaxg
