For Alvinโ€™s people: Please read the advice shared on the Missing Animal Response Network. They have a page specific to lost cat behavior. https://www.missinganimalresponse.com/lost-cat-behavior/ If you have not already, visit neighboring homes and ask them to look into their garages and outbuildings, checking multiple times while sitting patiently, and quietly. Cats get scared when in strange places and won't necessarily bolt for the door when it is opened, and might not even run to a familiar person if they happen to be present. Also, post flyers - don't rely upon everyone having access to on-line posts. Check every logical and illogical place your cat may have gotten into on your property, to name just a couple: cabinets/drawers โ€” high and low; in garages/bats/sheds. Donโ€™t forget to check in with local vets and animal shelters. Some have had success with placing a humane trap in their backyard - luring kitty in with a serving of their regular food; also with leaving clothing/blankets with your and/or their scent. If you have not already, post to Pawboost and/or Nextdoor. Each has their own audience and can be highly effective. Finally, for any reading this, please keep a bowl of water (ideally freshened every 2-3 days) in your garages/outbuildings for those instances when a neighborhood critter happens to find themselves trapped. Good luck, I hope to read a positive update on Alvin soon!

My personal experience has been first securing other cats in another closed-off room, dimming/turning off most or all inside/outside lights and โ€” if safe to do so and should be supervised โ€” leaving doors (especially door/window escaped through) open/ajar in the very early morning (basically, need to camp out in room where door is ajar). (Cats have a keen wide-ranging/radius sense of smell; therefore, it is so important to get their familiar โ€œhomeโ€ scents into the airwaves.) Every time, my little escape artist has come bolting through the door between 3:00 โ€” 5:00 AM. (NOTE: When heโ€™s escaped and door is closed, he panics and takes off again โ€” it is important they have a way in once they come out of hiding and make a mad dash for home.) Hopefully, if not used to being outdoors, ALVIN is very close by just scared to come out until itโ€™s really dark and really quiet. Prayers for a quick safe return !!๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป

The best thing to do is to talk to your neighbors during the day to see if they have seen your cat. You can also print mini flyers and attach them to your neighbors doors if they are not home. You can use painter's tape so that it is easy for the homeowner to remove. You will have the best chance to find your cat tonight from 10 pm onward. Use a flashlight and calmly call your cat. Best wishes! ๐Ÿ™
