FOUND CAT It could live nearby and is comfortably roaming around. If nervous, it could have been dumped or is lost from its home. It could belong to a new neighbor who let kitty out before it established its internal gps, which it would use to return home. It takes 2 weeks for a cat to do this. If it is an outdoor cat, its territory is up to a 1,500 foot radius around its home. An indoor cat has a much smaller radius and might only stray about 500 feet or so from its home. To find its owner, have it scanned for a chip. Post on Nextdoor. Contact your county animal control to see if someone has reported a lost cat and file a found cat report with them.
For those not on social media, post laminated, readable FOUND fliers with photo and phone number on STOP signs in your area. Knock on nearby doors. You can put a paper collar on the kitty so the owner will call you when their kitty comes home.
