Lola came from an abusive home before I got her, and I had just lost a dog a month and a half before she came into my life. It felt like we found each other at the exact time we needed to. We were both healing in our own way. She understood me, and I understood her. She took my mind off everything, not by trying to, but just by being there. She became my peace, and I became her happiness. No matter what kind of day I was having, seeing her face could make everything feel a little better. She gave me something to look forward to, something to love, and a reason to smile when it felt hard to. I watched her learn how to trust again, and without even realizing it, she helped me heal too. Now it just feels so lonely without her. The silence is different. The hse doesn’t feel the same and I don’t ever want her to think I’d ever abandon her. I literally keep looking for her in all the places she’d be hoping she’d be there, and it hurts knowing she’s not there. A piece of my heart left with her, and I don’t think people understand that she wasn’t just a dog to me—she was family, my best friend, my comfort, and one of the biggest blessings to ever come into my life. I’ll forever be grateful that we got to heal each other, even if our time together wasn’t long enough. 💞🐾
