Diana Ellis Hi, yes food is only placed at dusk. Should I remove the traps? I do walk the property daily. We have many bushes around so we are attempting to place them where we think he will be safe.

Laverne Cerra, you're placing the food outside at dusk (not during the daytime)? And choosing some discrete locations (not out in the open) where Whitey may feel comfortable emerging for food? If you believe it’s safe, tonight add more bowls or move them around to places where Whitey will feel comfortable eating — my escaped cats rarely came to the bowl I expected. Have you searched silently during the daytime? Most guardians will pass their cat's hiding spot dozens of times before discovering them, so it's possible he's still very close to home. Please don’t despair and continue to update me on your efforts. I remain hopeful for some good news.

Diana Ellis We have placed just food bowls other than traps in various escape paths and NO food has been eaten at all. I hate to think that he just isn't around the house area any more.

Laverne Cerra, do you have any way to monitor the bowls overnight (even an old camcorder will tell you if Whitey is tempted by the food). I usually don't set any traps until I've identified a place where the escaped cat is comfortable emerging at night for food (simply because taps can be intimidating). If you feel you need to skip directly to trapping, make sure the traps are in discrete locations (under shrubs, for example, and not erupting out of the earth) and cover the top and sides with something familiar from inside the home (towel, blanket, worn teeshirt) but leave the back uncovered so Whitey thinks he can walk through. That may make him more inclined to approach it. Please keep me updated.
