Post flyers and hand out flyers all over the area! Include picture(s), description, your contact info, and tell people not to chase or approach your dog (they are in flight or fight mode). If he/she is microchipped, please report them lost with the microchip company and make sure it’s registered with your current/correct info. Please report him/her lost with these and surrounding shelters, rescues, and vets (also visit in person!): Fairfax County - https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/animalservices/lostandfoundpets/filereport Loudoun County - https://www.loudoun.gov/545/Lost-Found-Pets Prince William County - https://www.pwcva.gov/department/animal-services/report-lost-and-found-pets/ https://www.facebook.com/share/v/198WwGJkoW/?mibextid=wwXIfr This video from Asher House Sanctuary offers a lot of good advice - he talks about his dog getting out of his car, the mistakes he made searching for his dog, and what worked having his dog come back. Some key points were: - Don’t approach or chase - your dog is not the same dog when it’s lost; it’s in fight or flight mode - Don’t look all over town/the area, this just spreads your scent all over the place - Stay where the dog got out (in his case, Lee waited in his car all night where the dog went missing and the dog came back after several hours) - Put up and hand out flyers (and tell people not to chase or engage the dog) - If your dog is microchipped, report them lost with the microchip company (and make sure your contact info is up to date!) Also report them lost with animal control, veterinarians, rescues, and shelters in the area. Provide theDm with: - microchip number - pictures from different angles In addition to posting and handing out flyers, post on social media: - Bring Ace Home - PawBoost - Petco LoveLost - Local lost pet pages - Neighbors (free app by Ring; you don’t need to have a Ring product) - Nextdoor Good luck ❤️
