Message from Owner

This may be my final farewell to my cat named Oak. To me he was so much more than just a cat, he was my best friend, my companion and my rock. Oak entered my life on a Monday morning at a Speedway gas station. All of the pumps were full and the lot was packed when the tiniest little jet black cat wandered over to me and stood up as tall as he could to put his paws on my leg. Certainly I was not in the market for as I already had two, Walnut and Ash who were litter mates and a little over two years old. Being in the congested area that we were in I knew I couldn’t just leave him there, he would have probably gotten run over. Little did I know what that cat would someday mean to me and so our story began. For 8 years Oak was an indoor/outdoor cat while I lived near Fort Harrison. Never did he stay out overnight. Each morning I would let him out before I was of to work and when returning home he would come running to the sound of my truck heading down the driveway. Oak would climb around on my firewood as I was processing it. We just loved one another company. He would sleep alongside me every night. When he had something important to tell me he was very vocal about it. He was a permanent baby as he was separated from his mother at a very young age and never weened. I was his human and his protector. The memories I share of him are countless and never to be forgotten and irreplaceable. Being that he was of the Bombay breed and potentially having shortened lifespan than most other cats as he approached his adult life I reminded myself to tell him I love him as much as I could every day. The thought of the day he would leave this world behind I dreaded but those thoughts reminded me to cherish the present moments we’d share as much as I possibly could. After moving to a new place and smaller/tighter neighborhood, i decided it was time that he remain indoors only and he adapted quite well. He still would occasionally try to get out if I left the door open by accident and I even let him out under supervision occasionally. I had to respect that he loved the outdoors and I felt bad for taking that away from him. Last Sunday evening he ran out as I had not been paying attention and I have not seen him since. I feel guilty for not paying more attention and somehow he got far enough away to either become disoriented to foreign environment or he found that his passion for the wild outdoors was truly what he needed to be happy more than our companionship; though difficult to accept that would be something that I must respect. Truly I am heartbroken. Oak meant more to me than any other animal I have ever been blessed with. Oak carried me through some of the most difficult times in my life and I can not be more grateful for that. The countless time we spent together will always be paramount in my heart and our parting has left an empty place in soul. His personality and the grace that he gave me will never be comparable to any other living being nor would I ever want to. He was truly unique and very special. A very smart and peaceful warrior; so strong and so very sweet. He was my buddy. My best friend and my rock. He served as a very powerful creature in my life. Truly a gift from above. Though our time was cut short I feel, I have to try to understand that the good lord took him from me just has he placed him in my life. It is unquestionable that he was placed in my life for a purpose. What is difficult to understand is why we couldn’t have more time together but some things in life just don’t have any answers.
