Update: I think I found the owner. Told her to reach out to me after 9 am (today) last night. I was woken up at 1:30 am asking for photos. Then when I called her and texted multiple times this morning, no response. Zero. Sounds like a scam to me.

Very kind of all of you to give me advice. I have a lot of experience with wild and domestic animals but not a lot with birds. I am going to Petco tomorrow to get a cage setup, proper food (I only have millet and sunflower seeds shelled) and will make sure little Budgie is well cared for till I can rehome or find owner. Some owners are abusive or neglect their pets too, so have to make sure that is not the case. Such a sweet little thing!

Christina Ferrigno I am actively moving, no time for any of that. The vet is a good idea though, I will call a few up. I don't want to show the bird much. I need owners to identify it. The photo I posted is close but not an actual photo of the bird. I also need to make sure the owner is a good owner not abusive and the bird did not run away! Safe with me till I find a good home or a good previous owner.

Try to keep handling to a minimum, only doing it at essential times, like providing them with fresh food and water or cleaning the cage. Consult a veterinarian — Schedule a visit to the veterinarian to have the bird checked for any health issues and to ensure they are properly cared for. Here are some steps to follow when reporting a lost bird: Contact local animal shelters and rescue organizations — Reach out to nearby animal shelters and rescues and provide them with a description of the found bird. If the bird has been reported as lost by the owner, they may already have the record on file. Otherwise, they will have the file saved if the owner does call. Contact avian veterinarians and pet stores — Reach out to avian veterinarians in your area and provide them with the same detailed description of the bird. They may have clients who have reported a lost bird fitting the same description. Additionally, contact local pet stores and ask them to keep an eye out for anyone asking about a lost bird. For whomever found the bird: Please bring the bird to a local vet, they may recognize it, and to get informed advice on how to care for a bird (if you are now familiar). If you have not already, post to Pawboost and/or Nextdoor. Each has their own audience and can be highly effective. Also, please post flyers in the area where you found the bird - not everyone is on social media.
