Go around late at night calling them with food and flashlight to catch their eyes. Check around your neighborhood under houses and in small places where they may hide. Put stuff out that has yours and their scent on it. Hang flyers around for people to see. Check shelters and vets daily. Update chip info if they have a chip and its has not been update since a move. Ask neighbors to check in their garages incase they ended up trapped in one. I pray you get your baby back safe and soon.

My baby boy is still missing. We even hired a pet detective who uses scent dogs. She told us that, per the scent trail, he was most likely transported from our neighborhood, either accidentally hitching a ride in an open vehicle or being taken by someone purposefully. There were some other possible trails around the exit to the neighborhood as well as the other end of our street, but the detective stated these could be scent drift due to the heat and rain. Please help us and share this post with anyone you know. I'm trying to not give up but the grief and catastrophizing is slamming me constantly, making it difficult to carry on. Thank you for any attention you can spare to this matter.

Loren Robbin, if you consider Waffle comfortable and confident in the territory where he's lost, perhaps he just needs some extra help getting home. You're doing the right things so far, so yes, thoroughly search using a flashlight during the day and especially at dusk (when it's dark and quiet) to determine whether he’s ill or injured and hiding nearby, or stuck somewhere. Check every crack and crevice, look in outbuildings, containers, vehicles, under foundations, sheds and porches, into trees, etc. — call and listen carefully for Waffles’s cries (he may alert you to his location). Diana Ellis No luck so far. Waffle has been going into the front yard for a couple of months, so he was pretty used to it. We have been walking around searching as we can. Instead of opening the gate to the backyard the past two nights, I opened the screen door to our front porch and placed worn clothes and some dry food out there. Today I added food to the backyard of neighbors who abut our property, where I was able to throw food over/through the fence. Friday night, during our walk, we spoke to one of those neighbors, and she let us search her backyard. She also stated that the other neighbor (our neighborhood consists of duplexes) puts out food for the stray cats. We haven't had a chance to make contact with him yet.

Loren Robbin, when you say Waffle has been going outside through the doggie door -- does that mean he's been confined to the fenced backyard until now (this is the first time he's breached the fence), or has he made his way outside the fence routinely? This will make a big difference in how you go about recovering him. If This is the first time Waffle has escaped the fence, he will act like any indoor cat and hide in fear, too timid to come when called or emerge in the daylight. When you say him on the driveway cam -- it was after dark, correct? If Waffle escaped the fence for the first time and is lost in uncharted territory, this is what I suggest: DURING THE DAYTIME, alert nearby neighbors in case Waffle is hiding close to the opposite side of the fence (under a vehicle, in a garage, shed, or carport, etc.), then, if there’s time before dark and you can search SILENTLY without dislodging him from his hiding spot, focus your efforts close to the fence perimeter and tiptoe around using a flashlight, but be quiet and discreet so as not to frighten him (shhh! DO NOT CALL or shake treats), check every crack and crevice, look in, under and around sheds, vehicles, furniture, under foundations and porches, into trees etc. but suspend searching when it gets dark to give him the chance to return voluntarily. If Waffle is familiar with returning via the doggie door, AT DUSK crack open the fence gate and place some treats in front of it -- not too much because you want him to come back inside. Call him softly to provide a familiar sound and direction, then watch and listen closely from inside (DO NOT GO BACK OUT AFTER DARK and keep the pups in also -- they could keep him from returning!) and if you see Waffle approach be very careful not to startle him as he makes his way inside (close the gate once he's calm and settled indoors). Please let me know what happens tonight and if he's not back by morning, I'll provide more detailed instructions. I'm hopeful for some good news.

Hi Diana, thanks for commenting on this. Waffle was an indoor kitten, but we could not keep him indoors as he would constantly get out through the dog door we have for our barely house-trained dogs into our fenced backyard. So he's been going outside for several months now. He would usually come home in the morning for breakfast, and then at night to sleep by me. Monday night, we saw him on our front driveway camera, but he didn't come home after that. Tuesday, when he didn't come for breakfast, we put out our clothes and food. We've been walking around the neighborhood at dusk/evening looking for him with flashlights, but no luck. I've just found out today that there have been coyote sightings near us, and our neighborhood sits in front of large wooded area off Semoran and University. I've kind of lost hope that he will come home.
