This is all general info. Not all may apply, depending on the circumstances. The finder will decide if, what, and when to do things, if applicable. First ask around. If the kitty looks in good shape it hopefully lives nearby, and could be an indoor/outdoor cat. Then get kitty scanned for a microchip at a vet clinic (free). If no luck, get signs up and check with local vet clinics in case they recognize it (give them each a sign). Also post on Neighbourhood groups. But only hand over with proof of ownership (photos and vet records). Also check the listings on the lost and found sites in case owner has posted, and be sure to also post in the fb group: Toronto Lost and Found Cats If you feel it is truly a lost cat (in danger where found, too cold or in distress, hungry and/or thin), then file a found report with Toronto Animal Services/local shelters and keep checking their listings (this can usually be done while still holding onto the kitty which is less stressful for it). Also, when transporting cat, make sure it’s in a secure carrier. Borrow one if needed.

Why assume this cat was taken? Post said the cat was found. Why assume the cat is being kept- the post is notifying us that this lovely cat has been found. Pretty sure people know about chips- These same posts appear for every animal.

Please insist on proof of ownership (vet bills, photos) before giving the cat to anyone who claims to be the owner. If you have any neighbourhood Facebook groups you could post there too. And if you’re really motivated, you could put up posters. Personally, I wouldn’t include the photo on posters, because anyone could describe the cat in the photo and say that’s what their cat looks like. I would write “Found white cat” and your phone number. If you can take the cat to any vet, they will scan it (for free) to see if there’s a microchip. But only if you have a secure carrier to transport her in.

If it isn’t in distress or injured - you may have taken someone’s in/out cat and now the can’t go home🫤. IF you are ‘keeping’ it please keep safe - it’s humans are probably looking for it. Do Not send to TAS. Many people do Not know to look there. Many animals With families don’t get home. Please take to a vet to be scanned for a chip. Tour the Neighbourhood and talk to neighbours -people on the street - someone may know of the cat. Also post a FOUND report with TAS in case the owners Do loom there.( you can keep safe at your place). Do not hand over to just anyone - ask for proof -photos etc.
