I read that Experts say not to put out their litter box because it will attract feral cats and your cat will get scared away or hurt

If you have a garage or outside building, leave door open a little bit with a dirty litter box and some stinky food nearby. Leave outside lights on and check often. Perhaps sit outside and call your cat’s name softly. Cats usually move around at night. Check with your neighbors within a two to four block area. Could be hiding in a garage or building or under a porch or deck. Even under bushes or a tree. Put some of your clothing out with your scent on it. If you have Nextdoor, post there too. Nextdoor.com

Have youtried putting his dirty litter box outside? Or clothes or blankets that have your scent? He can smell them to find his way home. Praying for his quick and safe return.
