Cats do not tend to stray too far from home (usually a few blocks), so search basically everywhere a cat that size can hide, after searching your home from top to bottom to be sure they’re not hiding somewhere. When searching, look in bushes, in trees, under decks, under porches, cars, in window wells, UP if they have claws, and talk to your neighbors as you go, providing your contact info in case they see your cat; post to Petco, Pawboost, PetFBI and file a lost report with MADACC - check all of those sites to see if anyone posted about your cat, and/or turned in your cat - MADACC posts pics of all animals in its care & updates daily - go through all their pics because they are not in any particular order; put out food, water & a few ‘smelly’ articles of your clothing in a sheltered area near your door &/or in live trap - scent can help guide them home. Hoping you get your baby home soon!

Amie EngelbEt Cats can be very good hiders when scared. It took me a week of doing everything repeatedly. Then on one of my 3-5am searches when it’s quiet and deserted, I heard a faint meow and found her hiding behind bushes not far from home in a place I'd searched before. Don’t give up. I know of some cats that took weeks before they were found or came home.

Dawn Waitthank you so much for all the information and support. She has such a small quiet meow already so it is so hard to hear her. She got lost back in 2020 and did come home 30 days later and was hiding in the neighbors bushes and was EXTREMELY scared and wouldn't even come to us, my son dug her out of the bush.. we are putting flyers out in the neighborhood today. I keep thinking im hearing her. Your tip about not waiting for her to come home is really helpful, ive not slept and been driving myself crazy waiting for her.. she never left the porch since the last time she got lost, so im so worried something bad happened to her, but hoping maybe she just was chasing a mouse or something or maybe was running away from something.. theres SO MANY coyotes, raccoons, opossums skunks mice and bird around our house.. Last time we think she got stuck in a garage or she'd somewhere.. maybe this time that happened again. She doesn't scent mark like my male does, he is always rubbing his head on everything We have put food on the porch and my nale has been out looking for her. They dont stay out but just go out on the porch and our yard. Ill be following all the tips and using the information you and others have given. I truly truly appreciate the support from all. It is truly so heart breaking 💔 😢 we found her as a little 1 week old kitten, eyes barley open yet.. she is now 10 years old.. she's always been the one to cuddle the most.. she is so loving and looking for people so I hope if she sees someone she will come out if hiding.. thank you again 💓

Thank you all!! She did get lost back in 2020 and came home after 30 days but had lost so much weight.. i pray this time maybe she will come home again.. i worry because after last time she NEVEReft the house or front porch, but when I went to let her in yesterday morning she was just gone, my male cat was here but she was not. I appreciate so much h thr kind words and all the tips.. it is so hard to go through. I keep thinking I hear her, she has an EXTREMELY small quiet meow, ill have to update the posting and flyers. ❤️ and thanks 😊 🙏

Hope u find your kitty❤️ Put food near your door. Place a baby monitor and/or home security camera near the food so you can hear/see when your cat is there eating and go and get him/her. Check MADACC and other humane societies. Post on Lost Cats of Wisconsin. Keep checking each day! Check under bushes and other places in your yard and neighborhood to see if he is hiding there. Cats become scared and won't come when called. Don't give up. People find their cats months later. My friend found their cat 3 months after it got lost. It was hiding under a bush in the neighborhood, not coming when called and acting feral… very scared! Prayers! Hope u find your kitty❤️ Put food near your door. My heart goes out to you. I have been through it myself. Here are some tips I've put together over years of working with rescue. * Don't wait for him/her to come home. Yes, he/she may do that, but most cats are scared and go hiding in small places, mostly close to home, a few houses or a block away. (They can go a few miles if chased or desperate, mostly in desperation looking for water and food.) They hide under cars, decks, patios, porches, in sheds, drain pipes, stairs, window wells, garages, bushes, woods, up trees, roofs, etc. Walk around calling their name, shaking a treat bag or favorite toy with bell. Carry smelly food to encourage them if scared and hiding. Listen very, very carefully for low meows. Use a flashlight to catch and reflect their eyes. A good time to go looking is twilight and very early morning/pre-dawn, when it’s quiet and calm so they may feel safer to come out and it’s also feeding time. * Talk to and alert everyone you know and that lives in your vicinity, as well as local businesses. Notify and check with animal control/shelters/humane societies Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission (MADACC) in Milwaukee county) and local veterinary offices. Post on and check lost sites, such as Lost Cats of Wisconsin (file your report there to create your FREE flyer and a post on Pet FBI ), Nextdoor, various community FB pages, Craig's List. Post flyers on corners/posts, in front of your home, and with neighbors, businesses, and anyone in the vicinity. * Put out a carrier or something right outside your door for shelter and safety. Place clothing/blankets with a familiar scent, yours and/or theirs, inside or nearby. * Searching, go out a few blocks, then back close, then out farther and back close. You may miss the cat or the cat may move or may not be meowing. Repeat over and over, looking carefully on the ground for paw prints and for places they might hide. * If you have a garage, leave open with smelly food favorites, water, clothing/blankets with familiar scent, their old litter box in garage. If you have a family dog who is close to the cat, give the dog something with the cat’s scent and then a treat; and then go walking around, watching your dog very carefully. You can even do this with another cat close to home, if you have a cat harness and leash. * Get or borrow a humane live animal trap and set it up with tuna or some other smelly cat food. Be sure to check it frequently. But in extreme weather, do not set it unless you can monitor it constantly and bring in immediately if caught. * And never stop looking! Never give up! Too many give up too soon. It may take weeks or more before you find and/or someone turns in your cat to an animal shelter. Make sure to contact and also GO IN PERSON to your local shelter/humane society (MADACC in Milwaukee county) to look at all of the cats they have there. Don’t rely on just pictures or the person answering the phone to have all updated info on who they have there. They do their best, but you need to check in person on a regular basis.
