Message from Owner

Ghillie is missing (pronounced Gilly) Missing from CROWN RIDGE DRIVE, COLORADO SPRINGS (Pleasant Valley Neighborhood near OCC) since July 25th. Neighborhood sightings have us thinking she has moved north and east. Last reported sighting in the cul-de-sac on Royalty Court. Very shy but very sweet - Indoor only kitty and not very smart. She has long hair with an at haircut over her back and light green eyes. Very raspy/deep meow. Likely hiding someplace. Please don't hesitate to contact me day or night if you see her:

In my opinion & from experience : If not in shelter/ found/spotted in 1 day or 2 (go by your gut instinct ) 1st file police report as stolen property. Make your posters say “Stolen/police report filed/ Reward” ( a lot of pure breeds, and toy breeds are stolen. COlorado became the 2nd highest state for pet theft during Covid, Texas #1. ) Cats are stolen also. Also use your gut instinct. But I add this with steps in case they are stolen what to do if your pet/ stolen property is discovered , & you got leads with no reply, or no responses after you’ve been contacted . Also when someone has proof and wants to come forward, you notify the department so an officer s you to the meeting place and then you can both decide on their story & if they deserve a reward. If you get leads with a name and or phone #, you need to google websites for reverse name, reverse phone # search , or email, if you have a lead from anywhere. Next you bring that information to the officer assigned to your report because they don’t do that research you need to bring that information to them so they can go to the address and surprise them. This is also for if someone posted your pet is found or on the wrong platforms that aren’t for lost and found pets and they don’t respond on any post they made. Pets sometimes need or diabetic or special diet , are a senior, or the finder may think you don’t deserve your pet back. You have to act fast with those reverse finder websites, there’s many. as well and filing that stolen report 1st . it becomes pet theft. 🚨Make Emergency noticeable posters (get seen much more by people , they can take a pic from their vehicles, also can see better driving & cycling AND more memorable than the notebook paper sized ones) Get NEON posterboard, black large magic markers, clear packaging tape from Dollar Tree. Cut each board in half making 2 each. Use the tape to also cover the picture and your handwriting to protect from the weather. Keep the writing extremely simple “lost dog /cat & phone #”. If dog runs from people write “DO NOT CHASE/ CALL” I add age if older, or “STOLEN” if needed . Add “REWARD” is up to you. Don’t have to say how much. . May Need a staple gun for wooden poles-important to place at intersections. Talk with people while you’re driving around and parking to tape these up. Ask them to take a screenshot of your poster or from your phone. These get the word out for people who are not on social media. You don’t have to add reward but if missing over a few days I would. Be prepared for scammers, but they won’t really have your pet. There are common ones that will want to extort money from you so they have your pet but took to the vet first and want the vet bill paid. They won’t have proof. Another scam is a couple found your pet, but one of the partners is keeping him hostage, and the other partner wants to help you and will eventually want money

Check your Facebook post for the website because it will show image that people share. I have a couple examples of what I’m describing that they won’t show on the regular website. The Ring doorbell app community works like Next-door app. Please post on the NEXTDOOR app too in lost and found pets group. Ring , It’s called Neighbors . It’s free and you do not need to own the doorbell to post on it. Post your pet is lost/found on there and maybe someone’s already seen your pet or found your pet and has posted on there. It’s really popular for lost and found and loose pets. when you make your post, make sure your “contact author” is turned on before posting and list your street /cross street because it’s very anonymous. It will not show names or location of you or other neighbors. And a couple people from the same family may be responding to your post ..and check your comments throughout the day

🚨asap or do again:This method is to reach all the neighbors who are not on social media. This works for dogs also, birds and ferret pet snakes and lizards, etc. you need to pass these out for many blocks around. (works for dogs too). And your cat may be near your home the 1st day and that’s it- neighbors may see your pet around or feeding them & not know is missing, or a stray, unable to catch, is busy, thinks cat will return home on their own etc. or cat won’t let them get close enough to read tags , or collar falls off. They’re letting in their homes, not posting on the right websites platforms, and pages , or shut in their garages or sheds, under decks & parked cars etc. . This worked for an owner to get her cat back. She made smaller flyers, asking to check their property garage is behind storage boxes, etc. phone # picture , address street Missing from. Do place them in Ziploc sandwich bags with a rock or fish tank rock, the bigger glass pebbles, anything to weigh it down and to seal protect from the weather. Take to all the neighbors doorsteps for many blocks all around. get family friends to help. Speak with the neighbors if possible too. Hand out to kids walking home from school too.

This is from rescue organizations & why: - [x] “Specific search tactics: kitties by instinct will hide during the day and not come out to you even when they hear or see you walking past because they’re naturally hiding from predators. best search when it starts getting dark, through the night and early morning with a low beam flashlight. You’re looking for their eyes to reflect back to you since they won’t come out immediately. Bring their favorite meat or smelly treat to coax them out when you see them. Search where cats typically hide underneath porches and decks and neighbors backyards go door-to-door, asking neighbors to check backyards. They hide under parked vehicles and deep inside bushes and shrubs, “inside storm drains”, and in between neighbors houses underneath belongingsand post those flyers. And search further with those flyers because they can get chased farther by another animal. - [ ] ALSO can be locked in the neighbors garage or shed so you do need to go door-to-door, go a few blocks over if the cat has been chased farther away by another animal. If somebody is out of town, ask a neighbor if they can contact them, or family member to gain access especially if you hear your cats meow on the other side of a garage or shed door that you can knock on somebody’s property who’s out of town or away for the day”.

Is she still missing? Your post this post being circulated on next-door. There is many cats right now. I’m in the shelter. They mix Pueblo in Colorado Springs look at intake, adoption, and cats held in peoples homes and they’ve come and we use Petco La La because it’s a facial recognition database. It connects to next door and ring doorbell if they use a picture. Also connects to shelters and rescues . You have to check the HSPPR deceased list as well online (no they can get gender and age very incorrect and go see if even a similar description, in person). But only when good Samaritans bring them there. If they’re hit by cars and people call animal control, they only call the city dump and they do not scam for a chip and even if you find out by calling them to check their call records Give location description. They still do not allow you to retrieve the body. And hang those neon posters spread them out if she still living around the area neighbors maybe seeing her not able to catch her and they’re not on social media.

General Information: Hang clothes with your scent on it (Worn clothing from owner) high up outside so the familiar scent can travel and guide the cat back home. Ask your neighbors to check their yard/could be accidently stuck in their garage or shed. (If applicable) Check doorbell or home camera - or ask neighbors to check their camera. Post Fliers with a picture of the cat and your contact information in the area the cat went missing. Not everyone is on Social Media and posters have worked in that if spotted a location can be provided. If a cat is scared they make themselves safe by finding a good hiding spot and often times hide in silence. Look in bushes - bring a flashlight and look for shining eyes. Best time to find your cat is in the early morning hours when the noise level is low and they feel safe. Leave an access point open for the cat to return. This is important if they do come back in the middle of the night. Prayers your cat returns/ or is found safely. Beware of scammers.

Drag asheet around the neighborhood to leave a scent trail. Get out calling kitty's name especially early and late when it's quiet and search high and low with the flashlight. Put up posters with number large enough to be seen while driving. And post on nextdoorcom.
